mods are a medium and come in varying qualities
there's good mods, bad mods, medium mods...

Endless madness was kino though

The great thing about mods is that they're completely optional.
You have to go out of your way to find autistic shit like OP's pic

I've personally just been playing Doom with HL1 weapons and 3D enemies and pickups. I can no longer stand the sprite enemies with few frames of animation after playing through 6 megawads in a row with the original Doom/Freedoom iwads.

Pic related, it's me and my bitch.

have you tried smooth doom?

that still wouldn't fix the issue of them being paper cutouts when i look at them from an angle

but at least the game was made with them in mind
i think 3d models can look good for doom if you pick a fitting art style, like something out or quake
but a lot of fanmade models just look bad and unpolished

I honestly can't imagine the fat greasy neckbeard incel pedos who actually play crap like Doom.

it's fun

>enjoy game with friend
>super ultra immersed
>HURR LETS GET THIS AND THIS AND THIS MOD AND THIS ONE TOO AND THIS AND THIS AND THIS
>game is now unrecognisable

you were a mistake.

they were great as a kid with no money and few games, especially with total conversion mods

Care to throw in any more buzzwords, fagtron

Some mods literally saved games (pic related), you just need to stop small/useless/bad mods.

>make a semi-popular mod for a game
>lose interest in said game
>lose interest in maintaining mod
>reading all the messages about people hoping you update it
I'm so sorry

what is it?

Here's your (you), now get outta here, you pissguzzler.

It's not so much a thing today but this was absolutely an issue with older games that relied solely on the playerbase to host servers. Once something inevitably waned in popularity a little bit you'd have a bunch of individuals and clans that hosted servers going down that rabbit hole, and suddenly it would become incredibly hard to just find a regular unfucked game mode server. It was sad to see games you love crumple up into little insular communities obsessed with shitty mods they convinced themselves were super cool when in reality they were poorly made and imbalanced and whatever else, and the original game that everyone loved was lost in the jumble.

Doom was the most normalfag videogame of its time. Shit got banned from universities because students would keep playing it everywhere.

mods are great

>developer has a reputation for being incompetent
>modders try to "fix" their graphics or artstyle
>make them even worse
Every time.

No. Mods were never a mistake and you should fucking punch yourself in the dick for even thinking that.

Bethesda modders aren't exactly known to have good taste or to create great mods

yeah the mods are garbage, look at the new board we got.

a game allowing itself to be modified makes it last a very long time
there are wads still being made for doom, mods for half-life
what can you say for modern games? when enough people leave the pubs will shut them down and it will disappear

most games nowadays either have very complicated engines or use third party features
also, greed in the industry and lack of care for "costumer freedom"
part of why carmack even cared about modding was because he was a hacker at heart, so there was a bit of a "rebel" spirit in his decisions

I added AI to a couple maps in Halo Custom Edition to halomaps.org many years ago

that was my extent of making any mods

The gaming community in these days is way bigger than it was before, you have people opening up game engines and reworking them, STALKER is an example. Even if the games aren't that moddable they might find a way if there is enough interest.

Can't let people mod games anymore because those "content" need to be monetized by the jews. Maps, skins, spray tags, even literal voice line quips

What mods and what load order? Please.
