This. Squeenix has the problem where they ship a fuck ton of games to stores and try to brag about it. Sad thing is retards just don't know that shipped does not mean sold. It means there are tons of copies of games sat in storage in some warehouse.

Remember the pacing of Midgar? And how they told the entire story in about five hours of game time and it was concise and to the point? Now imagine that they bloated it with shitloads of sidequests that are worthless and made you run through boring sewers/areas twice over to pad out for game time. Literally the only thing that this game got right are the character models and the music, everything else is a boring shitty slog

combat system is nice, materia system is nice, the game looks okay (nothing crazy though) and the music is okay at times (weird ass remixes every now and then though, which completely kill the mood if you're a fan of the original's ost)
they tried (and did to some extent) to develop a bunch of side characters which barely had any story to them before, and it's a hit or miss, but mostly a hit I think

rest is mostly garbage, new characters added are absurd to say the least, the new story elements are eyerollingly retarded, if you played the KH games, especially the last ones, then you'll feel right at home here
game is also filled to the brim with absolutely retarded sidequests, read; low budget MMO quests, have you played FFX-2? yeah, imagine those types of side quests, but even worse

When Final Fantasy XIII came out, they shipped 5 million units day one. SquareEnix was running around claiming "we sold 5 million copies! The game is a massive success!" Meanwhile, the stores couldn't even sell half of them. After two months, stores had already discounted the game down to $20 just to get them off the shelves. They lost money on FFXIII. As a result, stores bought fewer copies of Final Fantasy XV and VII Remake when it launched. Hence why FFVII Remake only had 2.5 million physical units released at launch (and still hasn't sold them all yet).

But sure. All that matters is SquareEnix getting money.

In the late PS1 era. They killed almost every series besides Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. It's only been in the last gen that they started making games like Bravely Default, Trails of Mana and Octopath again. They totally ignored these kinds of games on the PS2/PS3.
