Used to be able to talk to and befriend random people in MMOs all the time

What the fuck happened to me Zig Forums?

games began connecting accounts / identities while at the same time increasing moderation levels so that jokes can get you banned. You enjoy the game so you take the optimal path to continue enjoying the game

I mean, i don't think i'd ever say something that would get me banned. What i get is this constant feeling that joining a guild or talking to random people in a party just isn't worth bothering and i feel kinda stupid for it since MMOs are supposed to be social games.

literally me.

That's what being 30 does to you

>Only off by 3 months
That might actually be it, user.

Just be frenly. You don't have to act like a FAGGOT. Just be nice to people.

Your age has made you more self-conscious about what you say. When you were younger you were more unfiltered.

Not that other user, but as you age you get more jaded to other things you used to enjoy when you were younger. You could have loved soccer as a kid, but hate it now as an adult.

Too much effort getting to know stangers

I am the same way, and I think it's just our age. I'm almost 30 and I make no effort in making social connections in MMO's because it's basically a futile endeavor, as I know either me or the other person will stop playing eventually and we'll stop talking to each other forever, so I don't even bother anymore.

MMOs have evolved to a point where everyone who plays them is very asocial.

hey i made that pic

WoW required more social interaction. Now you can just dungeon/raid finder. The RP community was also more lively back in the day.

The internet went from
people seeking those things, places, communities
--->
people following popular things

One has humans who care
The other has consumers.

You have to find niche communities to find great conversation and make friends with strangers the instant you meet. The problem is the only true niches left are full of mentally ill faggots.

The best MMO guilds I've joined were the 30+ ones, no retarded zoomer memes but instead normal convos like I remember from EQ and shit.

Personally I have no desire to connect with people outside of the friend circle I've established over the past 15ish years. Also I cannot and will not be friends with people a decade or more younger than me who's only shared interest is some shitty video game. Zig Forums zoomers are especially bad. Seriously, I'd rather pull my own teeth than talk to you little faggots.

Literally me but the last time I spoke to people in games was when I was like 9 playing club penguin. I literally cannot talk to people on voicechat or in text in MMOs

>at 16 I used to kick it with randos on Gmod and other games
>got accepted by the “cool guys” and still had a great time playing vidya with everyone
>now 23
>cut off everyone I used to talk to
>mostly just post on here when I wanna discuss vidya
>try out playing with randos on Gmod again
>still had some fun, but there’s this strange feeling of hesitation and secrecy every server I go
I don’t know what happened but something changed about online games this passed decade. I wanna say that Discord and circlejerking ruined it, but community forums already existed before all this. It’s like as time goes on, games with small communities tolerate new people less and less. The game becomes background noise for blogposting rather than something everyone can have fun with while also enjoying each other’s company

Why though, why did it happen?

barely anyone talks in mmos anymore outside of discord tranny cliques anyway

It’s not just you, Even in Second Life, which is literal social platform for sad people, people only talk to those they know. No one makes an effort to keep up ties. The only people who do are those who I knew in the last few years

Honestly this might be the problem, I have a gigantic issue with being self-conscious about everything to the point it became self-destructive and I no longer try to do pretty much anything. I desperately want to change but my dumb brain refuses. Inconveniencing anyone ever is like my primal fear, IRL and online.

Not your age. I'm 30 and I have no problem chatting at random people. Most people aren't looking to chat or group up with randoms as much anymore.

I loosened up a lot in classic wow, dungeons genuinely felt as social as they did back in the day. I never did any content with meta niggers, though, just casual levelers.

I'm pretty much the same overall, and for me it's just because I don't want to be banned.
I quietly collect pretty things and enjoy the game with random matching. I'll probably never clear the raids because those basically require either an active guild or a discord account, and my guild is dead and I'm never using discord.

>be the edgy Zig Forumstard in the over 50 clan In 2007
>now I am the 30 year old boomer with the insane zoomers

Pottery

It helps to know that no one will remember what you say unless you are really awful

Oh i know but I would like to continue to play/work with people. I have seen people on Zig Forums grill people for less.

People used to be cooler. Eventually we started associating with the people we made fun of, scorned and made every attempt to get away from and that was our downfall. This doesn't just apply to vidya, but all forms of media.

If you let any amount of normalfags into a hobby populated by dedicated and laid back individuals its going to go to shit and won't be salvageable.

You gotta look for the least approachable games for the best communities, LOTRO is a good example of this. There's a sizable population of players who genuinely care for the world.

>2008
>Mics literally everywhere, on every server and every game
>2020
>Nobody, LITERALLY nobody uses a mic or talks anymore

Explain this shit.

I would love to play games like Payday, Deep Rock, Mahjong, Orange juice, etc. but it feels so awkwardly personal playing with a small amount of people, whereas in shit like TF2 servers back in the day there was so many people you can have fun and blend in.

I only ever used a mic for mmos if i had too, shit ruins my immersion

I didn't use a mic then because I didn't have one and now I believe I am not worth listening to so I don't use mine now.

that was mean user.
that was unnecessary
