I'm really surprised they didn't go that route. There's a shit ton of similarities between the ultra beasts and it wasn't touched upon at all in the games.

It's weird because it seems like too much of an intentional decision in the designs for most of the ultra beasts that they probably planned it at some point or maybe even the artists wanted it to happen but were shot down despite using the designs they made that followed this storyline.

I grantee it was an idea at some point in development. One similarity is coincidence but this, lilly with her hat, and is too obvious. Im going to guess they did this and kinda pussies out or didn't really have the brains to pull it off decently. Sad really, ultra beasts where such an interesting concept but like everything game freak does it never lives up to its potential .

They're not really the same thing as ZMs, Megas, and G/DMaxing since they're just a group of rare Pokemon, but apparently they are getting re-added in the next DLC for Sword and Shield.
Too late for me though, I already decided to pass on Gen 8 because I couldn't take the Shiny Nihilego I had prepared for it into the game.

It feels like they just couldn't decide what they wanted to do with the character. I think that the original SM Lusamine is probably the most interesting, despite the weakness of the Mohn subplot and its lack of resolution, because her evil was smaller in scope but more reprehensible than a lot of the series' other villains.

That was a really disappointing part about the Lusamine/Mohn thing. Like I get that he got sucked up into a wormhole and spat out somewhere else with no memory of his past, but did they, like, never look for him? And you as the player can't tell them "hey by the way I found your missing husband might wanna look into that"?
