Why did Nintendo go with Nshitia instead of Qualcomm?
Why did Nintendo go with Nshitia instead of Qualcomm?
mali gpus suck dick and have bad gl support, nvidia had out of the box gl and vulkan support
better energy efficiency
it's not 2012 anymore user
lmao what?
Dealing with nvdia was easier than with qualcomm
Qualcomm is a huge dick, even apple sued them for their dickiness.
Drivers are absolute shit. It's something they made on the fly so they could ship their products out as soon as possible.
I heard they're just starting to improve. Doubt it'll do much good though. Nvidia is light years ahead in that area and it won't fix the gacha problem plaguing the mobile space.
Smartphones were a mistake.
They literally got those gpus for almost free. While nintendo gobbled up that deal they won't be doing again in the near future.
because Tegras are the strongest overall for gaming consumer oriented Arm chips at the moment aren't they?
Besides Apple's chips of course but those are a forbidden fruit.
i know shit about any of this, but if i recall correctly tegra chips are used on some kinds of android phones, which has made porting many android ports of console games to the switch much easier
Qualcomm and Tega chips are both ARM based retard.
>i know shit about any of this
Then why the fuck would you comment if you don't actually know?
Shitcomm totally wanted to sell Nintendo their LTE modems.
because nshitia were practically giving tegra 1s away and nintendo are cheap jews
They have a good GPU (just a scaled down maxwell gpu). But the CPU is very dated.
Switch games are pretty much always limited by CPU and memory.
If they were that cheap you'd have seen them in tons of android TV boxes.
The Shield TV is still the best android TV device.
If only Nintendo could get their chips directly from tsmc with a license from ARM themselves
get that juicy juicy new 5nm spec they've got proof-of-concepts of
Sure spend money and time developing your own soc with likely inferior perf than what's already available.
Then blow even more money competing for the latest node that even nvidia didn't want to pay for.
What makes you think so?
*5G mmWave
Dont show this picture to geforce owners.
how do you do, fellow RX 580 bros?
I would've replied if I still had my V56
Considering it's AMuttD optimized I'm not surprised. What a shitty company really, especially when comparing the port to Death Stranding where it runs good on any GPU.
>it's ok when nvidia does it
And where does Nvidia do it? Again, look at all AMD optimized games like Borderlands 3, DXMD etc. that run like absolute shit.
does this apply up the stack, or is this pascal and lower. perhaps nvidia's lack of proper async compute on older cards is the reason for the shitty performance
Nobody works with Nvidia twice. You'll see switch 2 will have something else.
Do they have real async now or do they still use the software scheduler
To be fair this partnership didn't turn out a complete dumpsterfire like every other one.
DS has nothing on screen though, so mute point
you retards think MGS5 is well optimized when it shits the bed the moment there is more than 50 polygons like in the forest area.
WE DID IT BROS, WE'RE ONLY 10 FPS AWAY FROM MINIMAL HUMAN CONDITIONS ON SOME SHITTY S*NY PSYOPS
Nvidia documented a major security hole on their docs, which is why the homebrew scene is mostly deranged trannies.
what
how is this relevant
>etc
all AMD games except BR3 run brilliantly well on both platforms
All nvidia optimized games run badly on AMD, not as much anymore since navi many of the gaps in the pipeline
Nvidia is entirely responsible for early piracy on the Switch.
real one with RTX cards, that's why the perf/w gap is under 8% with AMD now
Nvidia's tegra chips run at much higher performance envelopes than what qualcomm makes (no, you can't just throw more clocks at gpus as the voltage scaling is non linear and power consumption is a critical factor in this deployment) and Nvidia was practically giving the chips away as nobody else fucking wanted them.
I played for an hour, but seriously, game looks good
and runs good too, I have no clue how they managed to make it stutter
1440p/3600x/5700XT =58fps, stable, all ultra
Navi's biggest move to gain parity was shifting to wave 32 instead of GCN's wave 64 as it dramatically helps with occupancy. GCN is a beast in many areas but games are not "fire and forget" large batches of instructions so GCN really, really struggles with being fully saturated.
yeah but that's not as bad as say never turning a profit for the entire system's lifespan. Though to be fair that's not really nvidia's fault.
Qualcomm have laptop chips now. They had scaled up version of their phone chips to use in laptops for a while too.
Also there certainly are companies who'd want the X1, guess it's not quite cheap enough yet since those companies compete in the low cost segment.
have some hopes for RDNA2, but launch will be terrible as usual
>guess it's not quite cheap enough
more like nvidia being nvidia wants to upcost them above 20% or more
>Qualcomm have laptop chips now
Now is irrelevant - qualcomm didn't 4~ years ago when nintendo were designing the switch.
Given nobody knows shit and AMD fired all their marketing people last year they are either onto a winner or are hiding a fuckup and it is 50:50 which. I;m inclined to think it will be good as AMD has been nailing their performance targets and release windows n their roadmap for a while now.
>AMD fired all their marketing people last year
the guy who was doing it for 15 years quit as I remember, he did a bad job so maybe it will get better
