Defining a Tryhard

In your own Smash Bros. experience, what would you say are the signs of a tryhard?

"Tryhard" is just a term people bad at a game use to shittalk anyone better than them regardless of the actual skill level of the person accused of being a tryhard.
You could call someone who knows how to tech a tryhard, or someone who knows how to hit you offstage a tryhard. It's a nonsense term.

I think he means there's a difference between someone that's GOOD at the game and someone who will spend 10+ hours a day playing the same character just for that one "hype kill" to spam all over Twitter like anyone gives a damn.

if you dont go for the most stupid offstage plays you are indeed a tryhard

If they play with items off

Believe it or not, some people play this child's game for fun. Some 30 year old losers tbagging after they spent the day demolishing some 9 year olds tends to kill the mood

Case in point, you got bodied by someone better than you so you're making up a false narrative of the person beating you beating some shut in pro desperate for clips when it's way more likely you're just bad at the game.

>goes out of their way to learn about the game, especially things that are not explicitly taught or obvious from just playing
>values winning more than other people playing the game
>practices things so that they can do them when they need to and avoid common flubs

these are the signs of a tryhard

A tryhard is anyone who is smarter or better than me. Everyone else worse than me needs to git gud. Only people at my exact skill level are okay, but they're probably tier whores anyway.

People with too much time on their hands.
Uses Smash terminology or comes up with new “tech.”
Owns a 100$+ GCN remote.

Tea bags after every ko or anytime they're far enough away.
Never uses a tilt.
Spams to their own detriment.
I remember when people suddenly decided that Sonic wasn't completely garbage if you take advantage of lag, and I would run into fags that never shied, grab, or do anything that isn't up or neutral special.
Their not fun to fight, they spend the entire match running away till the inevitably kill themselves.

Uses the term “competitive platform fighting game” seriously.
Follows the Melee “Gods”
Shits on Sakurai constantly
Inappropriate sexual relations with minors

someone who pivots mains based on when people find success at top level. Like picking up ZSS after Mars beat Leo that one time

I don't fucking care if I'm absolute trash mate
You're gonna have to take a better shot than that. Point is when I come for a good time I get kind of sick of people trying to flex "MY COMBO GAME" all the time

All you're doing is proving me right, 'tryhard' is just shitters coping with being bad by trying to drag down those above them.

From experience, those who think they’re the best no matter what happens. My brother for example is insufferable to play against because no matter what he’s the best
>He wins a game
>”Haha, i’m so good at this game, it’s incredible how you even manage to get a stock off of me
>I win a game
>”Imagine having to resort to using cheap characters and spamming in order to win; can’t even win a game with a legitimate character
No matter what the case is, somehow he’s still the best and i’m the worst. He’s just a headache to deal with

Anyone who wavedashes/lands off a platform between stocks in Ultimate specifically. Literally useless tech in this game but they do it anyway because it makes them feel more skilled than they are

Chaingrabs in friendlies/unranked

Riddle me this huh? If we're so trash why doesn't every battle have to be MAXIMUM EFFORT. You can't just kill and move on. You gotta "Go for the style on em"

Someone who's lost/never known where to draw the line when it comes to fighting strategies. If it gets them wins, they'll do it.
They're the kind of people that WILL chaingrab 0 to death a Low Tier as Sheik in Melee, or go for timeouts in Sonic vs Ganondorf/Slow character in Ultimate. In a bigger/more casual scale, also will interact as little as possible if you somehow got them to play FFA: Usually they may end 1st with 1 to 2 kills at most, and it was likely from Smash Ball/Meter or a bullshit Item they got while everyone was playing the game.

It doesn't take any effort to style on shitters, if you're up two stocks you might as well go for the yolo spike, it's not like you're gonna lose anyway.

ITT: Johns

i wish they add taunts back into quickplay

Because you’re easy to do so to and it’s fun.

Clearly. Absolutely NO one ever comes out of the gate unloading everything they have right? That never happens.

Bravo. You're better at a kid's game asshat. Save for twitter

Maybe if the matches are equal?
More shitter coping. I'm realizing now that the term tryhard is ironic because you don't need to try at all when fighting people who use the term.

You are a tryhard if you main any of the following characters:
Captain Falcon
Villager
Marth/Girl Marth
Roy
Ike
Joker
Samus/Dark Samus
Shulk
Ness/Lucas
Mario
Or any of the Starfox furries

Anyone who plays without joy.

>tournament level in Smash, can style on my friends when I want to
>roommates like to invite people over and play Smash FFAs
>they're all awful but whatever, play with them with characters I sort of like
>tfw use my abilities at the game to take out whoever I want, then "lose" to the remaining player
>do this consistently so everyone playing can get at least one win and have a nice time

Anyone who knocks your fighter to the ground and crouches over their face

My God this nigga retarded. Let me make it easy on you son.
Being good does not make you a tryhard
If you have nothing to do but sit around for hours testing shit like "if I do side B at exactly 67.9 percent on a Yoshi that has at least 42.6 percent, I can combo into a fair, then a down air, then block his recovery with a back air after I spot dodge twice and read the roll!" THAT shit makes you a tryhard.

Nobody fucking acts like this yet people throw the term tryhard around like it's candy.

"Nobody acts like this"
The shithole known as the competitive smash community:
