Discuss anything Oddworld if you want but otherwise News on the upcoming Soulstorm is drier than Mrs. Shapiro's p-word so ITT post your dreams, expectations, and fears
Dreams >Darker than NnT in aesthetic, story, and atmosphere >Delves into the stupendously rich lore of Oddworld and doesn't ease back on its political undertones >crafting is dialed way the fuck back and can be played without it >Is replayable(different endings, tactics, etc.) >Supports Ultrawide displays + higher framerates >tons of secrets, easter eggs and maybe even unlockables
Expectations >Sells well enough to warrant another sequel but not a metric fuckton >normies talk about it for a month or two >crafting is eased up on just a little and is only occasionally required, other times just a crutch
Fears >unskippable cutscenes >lens dirt/flare, and bloom are forced, no fix >Lore is barebones and tons of it are left on the cutting room floor >PC version an afterthought
are the 3d games even remotely good? they lack all of the grim atmosphere that the two first games had.

Thats the general consensus Exoddus had quality of life improvements like quiksave and ALL'A'YA making it easier to hop into and have fun Odysee is still fun but goddamn some of those checkpoints
Yeah I guess that's all people would need but I believe that is also lost to time The backgrounds in the games are the best in any video game ever full fucking stop
Maybe a short DLC campaign a la Alf's Escape in Soulstorm or something His game was really good, i'd love to see a sequel even if it has to be given to a different studio or something
Stranger's Wrath is great and is fairly consistent with the tone the original ps1 games had Munch is really meh and I have yet to finish it, though I intend to at some point
>I believe that is also lost to time That's lost for sure. >The old backgrounds are 640 × 240. We really can’t go backwards in quality. But they do have source code: >We’ve got the source code to both Abe’s Oddysee and Abe’s Exoddus. However, we don’t have final PSone code for Oddysee, and no PC code, but we have final PC code for Exoddus, and no PSone code. So we’ve got a mix. magogonthemarch.wordpress.com/2017/12/10/finding-the-source-a-brief-history-of-oddworlds-lost-code/ Beta source code is better than nothing, especially for games with custom engines.
