Genuine question: what is causing almost all games (and media) today to be unironically soulless?
Genuine question: what is causing almost all games (and media) today to be unironically soulless?
The love of money is the root of all evil.
You're not 15 any more.
You're getting old
those are soulless as fuck though?
Zoomer consoomerism. Eg, /vr/ since the ZLM takeover yesterday.
Advances in technology lower the bar/baseline of skill, relatively stable times mean less suffering/passion go into creation. Compare Itano making himself pass out in a fighter jet and crashing his bike to get a better sense of how to animate such scenes vs some modern animator that lets a computer handle half the work.
But I can appreciate art from before I was even born and recognise the soul in it.
I can play games on NES than clearly have soul and passion behind them.
Alright, why about this?
It has nothing to do with being age, older things have more soul, aways.
Take this example, this is soul
again both soulless
This is soulless
It's worse in every way, old is always good.
Profit motive.
Family Guy never had soul.
Soul
devs focus on ways to make money like DLCs and copying other games than making people happy.
devs are no longer passionate or seeking to make unique ideas like before.
that's why all games nowadays are just memes or clones of something bigger
Soulless
I hate this, bros.
I'm sure family guy always had computers involved, but when the show shifted to a style that more heavily utilized computers Peter always had this fucking expression. Every scene. Why would you want your main character of a comedy cartoon to look completely bored and removed like this?
Apparently it's hard to make money without sacrificing your vision.
Why do they think getting rid of soul is a good way to make money?
You are. It's actually your fault.
Compare to movies, music, news, even shit like stage plays. Getting popular = more money on the line = more corporate/investor interference = more risk aversion, more pandering to any asshole with an agenda, more 'expanding market appeal' aka chasing normies - all in a quixotic quest for profitability.
Small is beautiful. Take the indiepill Zig Forums.
By far the best use of the soul/soulless template I've seen.
Soul is real, and people who say it's not are bots or blue-pilled
you need to invest more money to make soul.
most games are now cheap open world or gimmick games filled with SJW trash for twitter points.
heck, even horror games stopped being horror since devs make them for streamers to make them popular
Idk, I feel like sekiro has soul
Fuck off zoomer
It seemed between the release of Star Wars in 1977 up until maybe the Dark Knight 2008 that creators understood that having soul was a crucial criteria for having a hit release. Maybe the financial crash or growing streaming threat changed the attitudes.
See
It's not intentional, just an inevitable outcome of getting big.
Gaming industry bubble.
It's a money making machine and the trust that has been built up in multiple generations is now being cashed in on. This leads to companies optimizing their development model towards maximizing profits because the chance that people won't buy a soulless game has decreased over time due to the built up trust that existed before.
Once we get it into our thick heads that we cant just consoom anything they shit out, then the industry will crash and the cycle will start anew.
Nah man, movies have been going downhill since way before the 70s. Its not that Soul becomes impossible, it just gets harder & subsequently gets buried in shit when someone pulls it off
I picked Charmander. Who did you pick?
It's to symbolize how the show and characters have changed, it was more lighthearted and wholesome at the beginning compared to the more mean-spirited and edgy tone of the revived seasons.
Pretty much everything uses the same game engine. Makes everything look the same, and without hardware constraints, games can look however the creators want which means they can’t think of interesting ways to make up for limitations.
The same reason why the first popular anime I watched had a completely original story and characters unlike any western animation, while modern anime is just the same tired tropes and styles.
Because young you doesnt understand that the only new thing about any 'new thing', is your perception of it
When you first make a thing you don't know if it will make money so you put alot of yourself into making it good. If a game is just going to make money regardless why would you put soul into it.
- You're getting older.
- Games are far more established and have a "rulebook" to work off of, and thus is less experimental. You're not going to see as many painfully earnest games as you would see in the SNES era.
- Money can spoil art. Just as Hip-hop was torn asunder by corporate interests, as are games being raped. Games as a service is a good example.
- Gamers don't seem to believe that games CAN be art. I'm not talking about Homoerotic walking simulators, I mean interactive media as a way of raw human expression. It's like we're afraid that once people start communicating through games, they'll transform in to whatever happened to the current art world.
Personally, I'd consider stuff like Tetris, Pac Man, and Virtua Fighter as works of art, but the term "art" is warped and people freak out when they see it.
the growth of the industry attracts passionless people who just want a wage. further growth attracts activists and demographic "groups" who want their "fair share" and at that point, things tank hard and fast.
3D animation is easier to mass produce and look decent, which means more money and less soul. Hand drawn via PC also requires far less skill and wastes less resources, so just about anyone can feel like they are creating art. No more technical limitations means no creativity or skill is required to create a product
>play new game
>it's shit
>IT'S JUST YOU GETTING OLDER
>go back play a old game you didn't have a chance to play
>it's a fucking blast
Eat my ass Zig Forums
Zoomers love Family Guy. I know a guy born in 98 who thinks Peter Griffin is the funniest thing ever.
Well that's your problem. You're idolizing the artwork of secondary material and not the in-game.
Simpsons did the opposite. Every simpsons family member must walk into the room bright eyed and smiling now. It's horrible and they look like they're about to pitch you an ad, which they do via product placement and celebrity guest.
Millenials are soulless and grew up in a toxic cultural wasteland in decline, so naturally their games are soulless.
This. 'Its just you' is a lazy brainlet take.
