Evolution does not contradicts your belief that there was some original creator entity behind universe, however it completely obliterates dogma stating that said entity is this particular god described in this scripture, who said this and that.
Only way to wiggle out is like Catholics who just modify their doctrine on the move (although fact of doing this alone invalidates claim divine nature of their institution), other have to deny that evolution is real even as they are surrounded by products of well recorded controlled evolution in their daily lives.

Catholic tradition going back to the Fathers of the Church never claimed creationism as they interpreted the Genesis as a metaphor for God being the creator of the world, not necessarily in 6 days or however. The idea of creationism appeared with protestants as they spread their sola scriptura teachings and rejected the catholic theology and their heathen philosophical influences.
