Where did it go wrong?

Literally not making anything in the game world and then handing the player the tools to “make your own”
I’m mean yeah the meme is that Bethesda is lazy and expects others to flesh their games out but come on

Settlement construction and item scrapping/salvaging was the main gimmick.
Story and game world design took a backseat to that.

>go wrong
Excuse me?

It wasn't scary like Fallout 3 was.

i liked the beginning of the game before the bombs fell. i found myself thinking "I wish I could explore the world like this". But then of course the bombs fell and we had to explore the world when everything was boring, grey and in shambles. It was weird and disappointing for me, made me wonder if the overall concept of the game even makes sense anymore. I dont really have a great desire to explore a ruined wasteland

all the bugs. having settlement building be a huge feature but never fix the bug that kills happiness and ect. values.
Then there was the 4 answer choices that really amounted to yes, no, need more info-> yes, no. Having a voiced protag made the dialogue and story feel stifled

It was obvious that they were soft soaping their audience for the full experience of fallout 76

I wish Beth would get off this MMO kick

is this a serious reply?

There is nothing wrong in simplifying product to for wider audience.
Fallout 4 was a fine game, but a bad Fallout game. I just wish they could hire some New Vegas guys to at least polish a F4 story a bit

Not a rpg

I just can't get back to 3 or NV. The controls feel so sluggish and tank-ish. I like mods that boost the speed of the character a little bit, but is there a model to make the character in 3 or NV not control like a tank? I don't prefer Fallout 4 for much, but it has usable controls so it's the only fallout I play.

Not a flaw. Genre tags are not flaws.

Yes. Is it wrong to want a game that is appealing to the eyes? Fallout and Elder Scrolls are always mud brown and puke green and mild bloody snot orange.

bethesda

Has bethesda actually contributed anything new to the fallout lore besides the Institution?

I'm still pissed off that the E3 trailer shows an arena, but it ends up being literally nothing in game.

Those who can't handle soul are the ones without [a soul]

the commonwealth was just a really boring map

Bethesda.

And yes, Fallout 3 sucked too

Same. The controls are already so outdated that it feels like a chore to play. I can enjoy text adventures because they at least play the best they can, but a shooter like Fallout really NEEDS acceptable controls, and only 4 has modern acceptable controls.

Story, plot and world were poorly conceived. Streamlined mechanics without implementing new ones made the gameplay tedious and boring. I actually enjoy settlement building, but not really what I'm looking for in a main entry. Could have easily delegated it to a spin-off series.

The whole game felt like a knock-off game made by a literal who company that didn't understand what the game's audience is interested in.

3 and NV's controls aren't even remotely tank-like

I don't know how better to describe it. Looking around is rigid and slow, movement is slow. Fallout 4 lets you go fast and feels fluid to look around. Play 4 then 3 and tell me how you would describe it.

Bethesda.

>why are you kidnapping people and replacing them with synths?
>you wouldn't understand
the gameplay is kinda shit like all the FPS fallout games but the issue is the story is also fucking dumb without enough thought put into it, like why did they make a synth gorilla? did they want to have it rip someones feet off and fuck them in the ass?

i fucking hate how weak fo4 lights are. if you don't put them everywhere you get tons of dark spots, if you put them everywhere it looks like cluttered shit. i just want to be able to light a room from one lamp and not have it look like ass.

I personally find 3 and NV's controls to be more pleasingly basic.

They’re not interested in making a Fallout game, they’re interested in making a lite-RPG that looks like Fallout and makes a ton of money

The game's main story is so unbelievably awful that I think it really sours the whole experience. For one thing, them using a "family" story again like Fallout 3 was such a boring retread and somehow they did it even worse. This is an open world game, why do we need such a strong agency to look for a family member? And one who we barely even know or care about at that.

The main character is frozen, their baby is stolen, then they are frozen again; the character seems totally unaware they were frozen again, though, so they tell NPCs that they are looking for a baby boy. This was frustrating and made it seem like the main character was really stupid, and like the story was just illogical from the start. I couldn't believe your character doesn't even ponder the possibility that maybe more time may have passed since being frozen again

The factions are also really boring. The Institute is the main "villain" of the game but we don't really learn much specifics about their goals. The stakes always feel very low.

Another thing that really annoyed me, your character also hardly seems to give strong reactions to being 200 years in the future, this took me out of the story, almost immediately they just go around like everything is normal. Its like the writers of this game gave very little consideration to what realistic responses would be.

Yeah, I hate it too. The only good light is the basic lightbulb, but having a bunch of those hanging around just looks really ugly.

>your character also hardly seems to give strong reactions to being 200 years in the future
This is so fucking annoying. At best he has “ghouls?” and “why are the roaches huge” but besides that there’s literally nothing. No fish out of water stuff, which is made further more annoying by the dull voice acting and hamstringed dialogue. Everyone immediately believes he’s that old too.

The memory den. Delete it so my favorite autistic speedrunner can stop complaining about it.

the game has some of the worst production values ever for an AAA title. the general graphics are pretty good, but the close-up models, animation and voice acting are bottom of the barrel.
