Which one should I start with? The original one or do I go with the Remake "Kiwami"?
Yakuza

The original if possible. If you find you dislike the more dated elements of it then you can try Kiwami.
That wasn't an option, you don't get to /thread.
Zero then kiwami, play the originals after if you want to continue with yakuza 3
Zero
don't say zero or you will summon Zig Forums's king of salt to whine on and on and on about it for literally hours
Zero.
release order
Dead Souls
i'm gonna say it, i'm gonna say the z word
good advice
dude just play zero
Zero.
Just keep in mind Majima in kiwami 1 and 2 is not canon.
There's no good way to play the first yakuza, the original is dated and the kiwami remake is hit garbage. So fucking bad, only yakuza game I've never completed lmao
I played kiwami first and then zero
play zero first
You will inevitably start to feel bored. You will walk from pointless conversation to pointless conversation. You will read and read and read while character models stare at each other lifelessly. You will do the same unchallenging fights hundreds of times over where enemies pose no threat. You will stare at cutscenes that play out in the slowest way possible. You'll tell yourself the story has gripped you while trying to ignore how badly written it is.
You will wonder why Zig Forums and various ecelebs hyped up this series, and begin telling yourself that YOU must be wrong, not them. You'll tell yourself it's good just to feel a part of something.
That's what you're in for.
1 on the PS2 or 0 then K1. K1 is not a replacement for 1 if it's your first game, it's a sequel to 0 in pretty much every respect despite using the same story.
Give your reasoning because K2 Majima explains how Majima got all the various things he did that 2 neglected to explain and it gives closure to an open thread from 0 that can't exist for 5 to happen on top of a couple smaller threads that weren't that needed. 0 itself is canon to the series now so there needs to be some logic behind this claim.
K1's neither here nor there with regards to canon since a lot of the substories are straight up thrown into the bin due to 6 redoing them and Amon cannot exist as he does for his story in any game going forward to make any sense. Especially 3's story since it's entirely about how obsessed Amon is with killing Kiryu for disgracing him in 1 when in K1 he's happy to have someone to get stronger with and only fights Kiryu to see who is stronger, not because he's hired to kill him like in 1.
>yakuza's dub
What the fuck were they thinking?
>how badly written it is.
It's pretty good within the genre it ostensibly derives from, the shift in tonality may be at times jarring within a video game that is simultaneously aware about being a video game and attempting to be a gritty action thriller. Suspension of disbelief becomes necessary at many points and even asks it's own audience to forgive its tendency to break canon and forget setting within moments of displaying contradictory information.
Its enjoyable for many reasons that often seem totally antithetical to each other, but that's also part of what gives it the variety people enjoy. You always have the option to focus on the individual aspects most appealing for you, though I would say a general interest in Yakuza film genre is one of the biggest selling points.
Play 2 on the ps2, then release order, thet's the only real way to do it.
I love Yakuza because I love Takeshi Kitano, Takashi Miike, Kinji Fukasaku films.
0, but the series only goes downhill after that.
even judgement sucks compared to yakuza 0.

You can't just /thread yourself!
>Give your reasoning
Not the poster you're responding to (0, K1, and K2 are canon whether people like it or not), but I do have some stuff that bothers me about the Majima Saga, lore & continuity-wise.
In Yakuza 4, when Saejima meets Florist, Florist explains that Majima brought Sasai down to Purgatory back in 1985. That's impossible, considering the Majima Saga is the first time he's ever meeting Florist / learning of Purgatory. There's also the fact that Majima couldn't have brought Sasai down to Purgatory back in 1985 even if he did know of it, since we're shown in 0 how he gets thrown into the hole and tortured for a year immediately after defying orders.
The next issue is a smaller one, but still bothersome. In the Majima Saga, Majima acts like it's the first time he's seeing Hogushi Kaikan (the massage parlor where Lee and Makoto worked) rebuilt after the car bomb back in 1988. However, we know from Yakuza 5 that Majima should already have known that, since he was back in Sotenbori prior to 2006 (when he married Park there in 1992).
Fair enough reasons then.
>considering the Majima Saga is the first time he's ever meeting Florist / learning of Purgatory.
Wasn't it just that he was meeting the Florist for the first time, not that he saw Purgatory for the first time?
If you re-watch the scene where he meets Florist, he's clearly also learning of Purgatory for the first time (he's surprised to hear of it), with Florist going on about how it's this underground pleasure district. I do wish they'd have been more careful with the Majima Saga, but alas, the main purpose of it is fanservice for 0 fans. It's worth it for that alone, but yeah, they needed to take more care and remember their own worldbuilding / character backstories.
Zero
If dont like that won't like series anyways
The original if you actually want to play the games
Zero then Kiwami if you are a retarded zoomer who just wants to play the popular ones to join the shitposting
Zero. Kiwami is a remake of 1, but it was made with Zero in mind.
>look at how much of a hipster i am pls like and subscribe with upboats
diminished returns is the yakuza of the franchise
you will instantly get bored after 90 hours
you just mash the start button and you literally win every cutsene
They really need someone to go over the continuity at least considering the whole deal with the Gelataria and the park in Sotenbori. I want to know why Gindaco High Ball closed their business for two decades before coming back for 6.
Zero then move on to Kiwami
Funnily enough, Zero has seen a surge in sales on Steam recently because of the Bakamitai deep fake memes. Won't be surprised if OP is one of the zoomers influenced by it.

As far as continuity for businesses and general locales, I have to forgive it, since there are way too many things like you mentioned where businesses disappear before coming back in a chronologically later-set game. I'd go mad trying to make sense of it. It's simply the devs reusing the Kamurocho and Sotenbori maps from the most recent iteration. That said, there are some pretty egregious instances of asset reuse. Hell, check this pic I posted: above is Kiwami 2, below is Yakuza 7. There are supposed to be 16 years between the two, and yet every single sign and ad is exactly the same, thanks to the copy and pasting of the map directly from K2, with minimal alteration. I know they spent that time crafting Yokohama and all, but come on, at least change some of the ads.
Overall I'm fine with how they've been handling it with the generic stores, but it's just that having these stores warp all over the place feels super odd when it's a pretty simple thing to take notice of especially when you're having to go back into the past and making sure that all makes sense. It feels like they're fine and then not fine, I don't know how else to explain it.
