>barely manage to scrape by and beat the boss with a few HP and no items left
>feel extremely satisfied after this evenly matched battle

>secret superboss is also the strongest enemy in the entire game

Remember this from Anachronox. Fough something that looked like some standard gargoyle devil type thing and it whooped my ass so hard the only thing I could think was "huh?". Later read that it was a alternative super boss.

>friendly non-threatening NPC you're not supposed to attack turns into a raging 1-shot machine that'll delete you in one hit if you try to aggro it

This happened to me with Sephiroth and the Clock Tower boss in KH1. Never beat them, never looked back.

OMG I just realized he's just liek Sans Undertale!!

>hidden superboss drops the strongest weapon in the game
>but theres nowhere to use it at because you just beat the hardest challenge in the game to unlock it

>that top hat skeleton in Darksiders II

Providing a secret superboss is the most challenging piece of content in its game, what sort of reward should it give the player besides an achievement? Keep in mind that an ultimate weapon or something wouldn't have a purpose besides one steamrolling the final boss.

I'd personally go for something cosmetic that either does something neat or appears in NG+, like the Hero's New Clothes in Wind Waker.

Human bosses>monster bosses

FUCK OMEGA

Cool cosmetic item.
Kingdom Hearts 2 gave you a crown if you beat the superboss, if I remember right.

This sounds like the lokarr set you can't use it unless you want to replay the game

Dev related stuff like beta character designs and/or cosmetic stuff like accessing to a secret zone with random stuff in it.

>Encounter is super fucking hard and the game fully expects you to lose
>Is actually winable and you even get a really nice reward for pulling it off

Lufia 2 was an absolute blast

>secret boss is the hardest fight in the game, miles tougher than the final boss
>if you beat him, you get the secret ending where he shows up to the final boss fight and totally clowns on the main villain as thanks for giving him a good fight

Top kek, that how I felt when I play DS2sotfs on solo in the last battle against the throne keepers.

the throne keepers>Nashandra

What game?

Info on the world’s lore. I was very content with this kind of reward after hollow knight’s path of pain.

An entirely new quest line opens up after beating it.

You get a bonus scene after the ending that gives the player a happier ending as a bonus.

Dragon Quest VI

Back in the old days I would say a developer's room like in Chrono Trigger/Cross and SaGa Frontier but games are made by giant teams now so there wouldn't be any personalization anymore.

>boss does 1 damage at his 1st hit
>2 on his 2nd
>4 on his 3rd
>8 on 4th

>have to use confuse status effect so he forgets what number his next attack was and starts over

WHO ARE YOU STRANGERS???

In Ys Oath in Felghana it unlocked all cheats if you beat the super boss.

My negro. Gades blade was useful for like 3/4 of the game

The GBC actually has the same thing, shits dope.
