Microsoft started an astroturf negative campaign against him here in 2013 and its never really let up.
You can't discuss GNU/Linux gaming or major figures in it like Gaben without having pro-Microsoft trolls popping up.

In the Final Hours of Half Life Alyx, it says the writer of the ending that made it into the final game proposed it to the team, and they all liked it, but he had to go up to Gabe's office to get it approved for finalization. Gabe also said he loved it and gave it the pass.
It's sometimes easy to forget that the Half-Life franchise is Gabe's baby but I'm glad that big decisions in the games' plots, even with how Valve is now, have to be Gabe-approved
