Amd can compete now. It's a coin toss. Price to performance is so similar, and games are getting more and more multithreaded.

At the lower end of the spectrum the vga products are similar enough to justify going with amd. Nvidia still crushes high end (they're literally a monopoly of high end) and Intel still barely eeks out in price to performance for gaming (and only gaming). If you also stream: amd is cheaper. If you do rendering/editing: amd is cheaper.

Depends how old they are. I just upgraded and replaced the lot, because Intel's processors have gone up in tdp especially OC'd, plus bigger GPU (so wanted a beefier PSU), my case had no USB 3.0 front, and my ram was ddr3.
