>9 starters to choose from, one of each type >interesting story, humor, self aware >does not have a tutorial every five minutes >actual difficulty that requires planning and strategy team building >wild nexomons and battle opponents level scales with your level so you can't over-level >good designs that are not James Turner level slap a face onto ice cream shits
This game feels like the old pokemon games before they lost the magic. It has ten times the soul of SwSh. I hope pokemon is paying attention, because Nexomon is what pokemon could have been and people are starting to realize that.
>self aware Self awareness is garbage and overplayed
Thomas Garcia
>self aware stopped reading right there
Josiah Flores
doubt you even know what that means, parrot
William Perry
>Game scales to your level Not necessarily a good thing. >Random potshots at James Turner, specifically referencing a design that gets frequently misinterpreted >Using "soul," /vp/'s favorite and most worthless buzzword
Marketable creatures can make or break a game like this. Pokemon understands this very well, and they've spent a lot of time and a lot of money on artwork. Even Pokemon whose designs you may not personally like are extremely marketable.
If your art is derivative, or your designs are just straight up not as marketable, you can't duke it out with Pokemon. Them's the breaks.
That being said, people should be making games that live in this genre, but aren't directly trying to be a better Pokemon. You can't beat it at its own game, like that, just like knock-off titles don't dethrone games in other genres. We need actually unique monster trainer RPGs.
Christian Taylor
The humour is atrocious, but the story is indeed interesting. The gameplay is also fun and snappy in a way that makes pokemon's sluggishness painfully apparent. The designs are so-so but there are enough there to find appealing.
Oliver Nguyen
I know exactly what it means, it's the self referential "look how silly this convention of our genre is!" humor that I've gotten sick of years ago. It's not so much I hate people poking around with genre conventions, it's that it's a lazy way to draw cheap laughs when you're not creative enough to do anything interesting with the artistic framework you're working in.
Samuel Gray
Extinction is apparently the second game
Eli Ward
>wild nexomons and battle opponents level scales with your level so you can't over-level So it basically limits how you can play the game. Wow.
Xavier Allen
>$0.01 Nexobucks have been deposited into your account.
Nathan Reyes
this guy probably picked charmander and only had other stuff in his party as hm slaves lmao
Josiah Diaz
you know this is based off a real animal right I suppose no other game is allowed to make a snake monster because ekans is a thing as well
Kevin Torres
fuck you masuda-cuck

Nexomon is to pokemon what Stardew Valley was to Harvest Moon. It's really starting to take off and I have no doubt they will make a follow up game. I can't wait, it's about time there was another big monster catching game out there.
Some competition, however slight, might be the best thing to happen to Pokemon. They'll have to actually try rather than shilling out shit knowing people will buy no matter what just because it's pokemon.
Leo Sullivan
>Nexomon is to pokemon what Stardew Valley was to Harvest Moon. >What Stardew Valley was to Harvest Moon This comparison pisses me off, Stardew gets credit for adding all this shit that makes it different and interesting next to Harvest Moon, but Rune Factory is an entire franchise that had multiple entries before Stardew Valley existed, and literally used to be marketed as Rune Factory: a Fantasy Harvest Moon.
Charles Butler
I don't think this game can compete with Pokémon, though. Tem Tem can't either since apparently it is already dying. The only one that can is Digimon, if it gains enough traction like it seems it is doing after its resurgence these years. Maybe kindred fates if it ends up being good and big enough.
Dominic Sanders
That's even worse because I had no idea there even was a prior game.
Sebastian Taylor
Holy fuck where did you get this meme? Mind if I use it??
Jacob Jackson
can i play as a girl tho
Jason Bell
I would play all these pokemon knock offs if they actually had not shit designs. At least then I could just treat them like really polished fangames. But the designs and art style are such trash it makes me not want to bother.
Nolan Hall
That kind of thing happens all the time in the video game industry though, especially if the dev or publisher is small. In this case, it's an indie product and the previous entry was 2017.
Caleb Gutierrez
Yes
Jackson Williams
All it takes to get me interested is good designs this does not have good designs
Brody Sanchez
>9 starters to choose from, one of each type the only one that looks good is the gecko >interesting story, humor, self aware I hated coco through the whole thing, only funny moments was when he fucked off and you're left with atlas and your ghost uncles >actual difficulty that requires planning and strategy team building just spam the 110 power attack with not shit aim/speed and you're gold, so hard to trigger secondary effects that it doesn't matter, or get a normal one wit the high crit moves >wild nexomons and battle opponents level scales with your level so you can't over-level thats only the random stuff, and its for you to farm and not get underleveled vs story battles that HAVE fixed levels >good designs that are not James Turner level slap a face onto ice cream shits cats everywhere, and cats suck, only good ones are on the rock/electric type + the fire scorpion and water elephant
Andrew Hughes
Wasn't Rune Factory made by the same people though? Stardew Valley was an indie game just like Nexomon is, and it grew in popularity to the point that even the creator of Harvest Moon praised it for a job well done.
Jonathan James
I will say that the amount of content you get in this for $20 is really amazing. It feels like a $40 game and I probably would have been willing to pay that for it knowing how great the story is and how many Nexomon there are in the game.
Jaxon Wilson
Dude, spoilers.
Bentley Robinson
>got deleted cmon, also that piece of information would made all the pokefuckers here pick it up faster than any amount of shilling in the form of >this one is pokemon but good I swear
Julian Martinez
Actually, Rune Factory is a Neverland product, but they share Natsume as a publisher.
The point that I was making is that Stardew Valley, while a good game, didn't really innovate anything. But it still gets applauded for being like Harvest Moon, even though there's a game that's closer to what Stardew Valley is that predates it. Honestly it's just sort of a personal gripe of mine, that a franchise spanning six titles and four consoles before Stardew Valley just gets overlooked for no good reason.
Colton White
There's a difference from using the same base animal to, using the same base animal + theme + fucking color scheme
Grayson Sullivan
the funny part is the nexomon is way more useful in battle than vikovolt with that trash speed
Noah Clark
This, like what if we got an MMO with a focus on competitive and no RNG. I'd def play that for sure
