what remains is nothing but charmless busywork fetch quests and shitty combat with uninspired enemies on empty planets that are all functionally the same world but with different colored dirt

I played it early on for about 5 hours and was really excited by the framework for what would surely end up being a great game. Years later I tried the full release and dropped it after an hour. Absolutely garbage. They literally could have released the Alpha and it would have been better.

Yes. They had six artists on the team and they just kept creating and then removing assets. In the end the game's progression never really changed after it was first established, and the only completely separate feature they tried to flesh out, mechs, was a complete flop.
It looks good, plays good, but some of the design decisions along the way were just so fucking bad. The little adventures with bosses at the end they finally settled on are just so boring.
