It's a mixed bag of things.
It's jank but it's also really fun in some parts.
It's cringe but it's cheesyness can be endearing and kino.
It looks butt ugly but it's also aesthetically pleasing in a way.
The game has enough to stop it from being bad but it's also got enough to stop it from being great.
I can’t stand Sonic A1, I’m playing through it for the first time.
SA2 I could play it all day everyday

Sonic Adventure 2 is mostly good for Chao Garden. Sonic Adventure 1's Sonic levels are the best.

No. They're both pretty good but flawed games. They can both be great at their peaks, but they do have glaring issues here and there that drag the game down a bit, but in no way are they bad games. If Sega actually stuck with the formula of these games and polished it up a bit, the blue blur would be in a better place. They get very satisfying to play when you get more skilled at them. Sonic Adventure 2 also has an unironically kino plot for a kids game.
No, of course not. Why does the internet love calling good games bad years after they came out? The same shit happened with DK64. I don't know anybody who thought these were bad games when they came out
SA1's levels felt a lot more rough around the edges than 2 from my experience and everyone besides Sonic and maybe Tail's levels are really lacking.
One of the most ludo sonic games out there. It has genuine passion put into it while not as much as sonic adventure 1 still is by far one of the more genuine games in the sonic franchise not counting 3 and knuckles. Just replayed it today and can say it’s exactly as I remember it being. A genuine good fun game. With great music to boot.

People like to be cynical because it makes them feel special, but they aren't actually intelligent enough to come up with anything valid or relevant, so they listen to whatever some popular youtuber says and parrot them.
Not trying to shit on anybody, but why do people bother with vinyl?, it just seems like something that is outdated and inconvenient

Not sure about SA2 but in DK 64's case it is not that fun even if you are into Rareware collectathons like me. Small things that could be ignored in other games, like Kongs having their own versions of common collectables or areas being unlocked by one kong before needing to go back with another Kong, just get exaggerated due to the requirements for completion

honestly i know SA3 is a meme at this point but i really fell that if they could have made one more game right after adventure 2 they really could have ironed out a good amount of the issues with the first two games and made something fantastic, but they unfortunately lost steam only a few years later

Literally all it is is thirsty "video game YouTubers" desperate for video material, and the "jokes" against Sonic 06/Boom/Forces are played out, so they start digging into older games hoping to find something to make a video out of.

By todays standards, sure. For the time though extremely buggy/janky 3d games were very common. The games legitimately are cringekino, they do lots of cool video game tropes and do them well and cheesy. Playing as Sonic (or shadow in SA2) play like how they would and should, the only really bad things with the gameplay are the non-sonic characters in both of the games, however I don't mind knuckles, tails, rogue, eggman, shadow levels from both games (obviously some of them aren't in SA1), I can see why people can hate the non sonic characters though.
SA1 has too many shitty characters imo, amy levels are a slog, big levels are garbage too despite being a based character. Tails/eggman in SA2 are alright, knuckles/rogue are also alright except for rogue's space level at the end . I also think SA1's hub is shitty and adds nothing, 2 is just raw levels and cutscenes back to back and its paced better because of it

Imo this gripe could've been avoided if they had done bananas a little differently i.e. used them as breadcrumbs towards a character's specific golden bananas rather than putting five bananas for diddy on top of a random tree.
Both are unpolished garbage
SA1 is ambitious at least, but theres few good levels
2 is awful in every sense of the word
