What are some genuinely good western boss fights? why are the Japanese so much better at it?

literally none lol.

Mr Freeze in Arkham City

I've noticed Japan is just way better at making cool shit with real impact. Look at fights in an average American comic book and compare it to average fights in Japanese manga. Japan just gets how to make things look really cool.

Pretty much all the bosses in Blood Omen 2.

The God of War games had some fantastic bosses

Great Mighty Poo is kino

I hear people liked the duels in ghost of tsushima. I liked the ones in jedi fallen order.

Maybe someone can tell me if darksiders had good boss battles since I can't think of anything else. Pretty much what said.

yes they had and the new god of war too.

but take all the final fantasys, including ff14( online ).

Japanese Games always had the best Boss Fights.
Any generation so far.

And i tell you why. Japanese Developer didnt forget that games are made to entertain us.
You didnt start playing games to have some realistic experience about politics etc.

>discount lotr vs high-texture pokemon

they're both shit

>Japanese Developer didnt forget that games are made to entertain us.
its hard to forget something you never knew
cant wait to play menu simulator anime VN #9843

>Hit a boss' weakpoint in Ni No Kuni
>"NOW'S YOUR CHANCE!"

Darksiders 1 and 2 are the most underrated Games.
I stil cant understand why.
Both Main Characters are Badass as fuck. Voice Actors great.
Gameplay fun as fuck.
etc etc.

Darksiders 1 because it had those retarded combat challenges to unlock dungeons
Darksiders 2 because it tried to staple open world mechanics to the core experience

i gave Darksiders 2 like 5 tries, but never couldnt get into it because the dogshit camera. how do you make it so fucking shit seriously

They remind me of soul reaver or well just the type of random gothic game you could find back in the ps2 days.

Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver games were damn good.

Yeah, I could see my post sounding dismissive there. Meant to be a compliment. What's wrong with Darksiders 3 though?

never played it. cant give fair and real feedback.

majority of /v never played the games they bash.
the new generation of missinformation twitter society is shit nowdays.

Hayao Miyazaki once described the "secret sauce" to anime and manga being so impactful is that every action is loaded with emotion. That's why characters scream and cry alot, in often unbelievably exaggerated ways. Western comics don't really do this, at least not in the same way.

you know how Darksiders was like an ok GoW clone staple to an ok Zelda clone?

Darksiders 3 was like a bad GoW clone stapled to a bad Souls clone

Nigga LOOK at the flashpoint paradox movie

indie games don't count, they haven't forgotten games are supposed to be fun

How far are you going to move your goalposts

just saying indie games aren't really representative of the Western style of video game development

They're legitimate games, just like AAA games are. There are just as many indie games without boss fights. Don't act pretentious.

they're legitimate games and I like a lot of them

but they don't follow the Western AAA design sensibility that people criticize when they talk about Western games having shitty boss fights

Yes, but indie games aren't just a western phenomenon. Shovel Knight has good bossfights, so does I Am Setsuna. Mario 64 doesn't. No reason being that picky just to prove a point.

Low quality post

Emotion doesn't have to mean human facial emotion. There is a lot more knowledge of stylised physical acting and human body posing in Japanese culture because of the prevalence of battle Manga where people or people-like characters are drawn in various still frames of action. Those still frames have to be able to sell impact and motion by themselves, this requires exagerrated form and style that translates brilliantly to action video games. Japan has a fuck load of animators who are excellent at animating combat because they started as teenagers in their bedrooms with pen and paper and they have the best possible source material to learn from.

The most recent Western titles that do a good job of combat animation are things like Remnant and New World, although I'm convinced they're copying directly from the Souls series. Neither has especially impressive boss fights though, they just nail the player melee animations by using the same style of posing as the equivalent Japanese games in the genre.

HK is barely animated. Perhaps you meant to post this.

Hollow Knight's boss fights are vastly superior to Ori

Only in terms of difficulty.

in all terms

>me good guy me gonna kill big baddy
It's because the audience for western rpgs isn't middle school kids that can't handle anything past basic black/white morality.

No westerns rpgs are just shit and can't develop good combat systems. So a well-designed challenge is impossible in a bad genre

That's a funny shitpost user. Thinking that anything in HK approaches the level of artistry and design that Ori2 pulls off is quite the hot take for attention. The game is an audiovisual tour de force.

and yet it still pales in comparison to the quality of Hollow Knight
