It was canned because Inafune quit and was the project lead and intentionally had no transitionary set up. Same thing with Megaman Universe, Maverick Hunters, etc.
Inafune was pissy they wouldn't create a new position for him to give him a mondo raise and made sure when he quit it would have the most impact on the fans - the last thing he did was sign off on Megamans appearance in SFxT days before he quit.
