I actually like the game but OP was asking for that, 10/10

Undertale's fandom didn't ruin the game for me, but it made it evident why the game isn't that great. The thing most people were drawn to were the characters and melodramatic schlock story.
The game itself is novel at times, the presentation is good, the music is excellent. But the game itself? A 6/10, at most. There's little to no replay value. Unfortunate that the hard mode that was promised never got made.

There's artists who make black and white sprites still. People will automatically associate them with Undertale though, so it takes a lot of skill to make something that steps out of his shadow.
You could very easily get a similar effect by just using 2 different colors, or adding a third. Experiment.

Exactly why I made my post. There's a lot of things that are gonna be automatically associated with Undertale now that I would've loved to do like RPG combat centered around dodging projectiles and what not. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing like monstrous competition to breed innovation but i'll always be just the tiniest bit salty that I didn't think of it first.

the gameplay and design itself is creative and unique enough that a 6/10 is definitely too low, the game also has more replay value than most games since you actually have a reason to replay it with alternate endings and routes, whereas most games are just meant to be played once
