What, exactly, makes this such a memorable scene? Despite having not played the WC3 campaign in some time, I can basically quote this entire scene verbatim.

Voice acting, build up, and setting. Even though most of the characters in WC3 are shallow, they all bounce off of each other very well (like Uther serving as nothing but pure foil for Arthas but still it feels great when they interact). The gameplays also pretty good so that goes a long way with remembering moments like these in games.

I think it was the first "oh shit" moment in the game

plus at that point Arthas seemed like your normal good guy so for him to be all like "we gotta kill all these people before they turn" did get me a little bit, he was right though

i guess how fast he decides to do it added to it as well but i guess the difference between Arthas and Uther here is that Arthas did see the consequence of the plague while i don't think Uther did

It's the right mix between cheesy and serious, from the visuals, to the dialogue, to the voice acting.

You heard it a million times in Wotlk probably

Being at an imprintable age and encountering rarely used themes in a video game at the time.

1. The verbal conflict between Uther and Arthas that escalates, resulting in Uther getting discharged and Jaina walking away in disgust at what he's about to do.

2. This scene represents the point of no return for Arthas' character arc. It's where he shows he's willing to do anything to save the kingdom he loves, including murdering an entire city. Once he's shown his willingness to cross this "terrible threshold" as Uther puts it, this willingness he has and his thirst for revenge are going to lead him down a very dark path.

What's interesting is it exposes the writer's complete lack of understanding of what the fall looks like in a man. That's why the pacing falls apart after that.

this. uther just bails instead waiting few minutes

this is were the famous phrase "kept you waiting, huh?" comes.

You were 12 and you were easily impressed

The only person in the wrong here is Jaina, who also saw the consequences, but did not back up Arthas or inform Uther of the situation's seriousness.

Consumer: Your founders updated this game for twenty years and you've ground it to dust in a matter of days.
Blizzard: Very dramatic, Consumer. Give me the launcher, and I'll make sure you update quickly.
Consumer: The launcher holds your fans' purchases of the original release, Blizzard! What, were you hoping to piss on them one last time before you left the playerbase to rot?
Blizzard: I didn't know what it held. Nor does it matter. I'll take what I came for one way or another.
Consumers: I dearly hope that there's a special place in bankruptcy waiting for you, Blizzard.
Blizzard: We may never know. I intend to microtransaction forever.

Even though WC3 plot is very by the numbers it's told in a very entertaining way.

"ding"

Starcraft, Warcraft 3, and Diablo have some really outstanding voice acting.

point of inflexion for the best video game campain ever made in human history

That and music. Story telling is not bad either, for video game standards.

Yeah, that too, people just underappreciate how important delivery is both in dialoge and how the plot unfolds.

>build up
it is this, the story is properly paced and there is a build up and pay off for this scene
it sets the tone for the rest of the story arc too

Look up Uther's va.

>women doing fuck all as always

I just want the Warcraft movie that details Arthas down fall and the birth of the lich king. The story is already good and pretty much ready to go but chink-blizz will never do it and it is a fucking shame. I can only dream that it happens once classic rolls over to wotlk but I know it will never happen. Also there would be nigger paladins or Jaina or Sylvanas would be a nigger. Kelthuzad could be the nigger and it wouldnt even be that bad even if he is a key character on Arthas corruption

Pure unadulterated kino.

I don't understand how we have seen multiple examples of an HD Arthas who is imposing, but realistic, and then Reforged Arthas looks like absolute trash with shoulder pads bigger than his torso and a completely unmoving face.

I still can't believe Blizzard tried to rip off the Arthas VA and ended up with some garbage knock-off for everything post TFT.

Arthas shouldn't have needed a voice post TFT.

Yes, this is the beginning. I've been waiting for you, young gamer. I am Mal'Kotick. As you can see, your franchise is now mine. I will now patch this game client by client, until the flame of soul has been snuffed out... forever.

It's not only the english dub. I can say that the french one is a masterpiece, every voice fits perfectly and it was top notch voice acting for a game.
Then they decided to redo all the non-english voice acting for Reforged (as you probably guessed it, it's fucking shit), erasing the perfect work of the previous voice actors.

I don't understand how they could have remastered it anytime in the past 17 years and they threw it together ('they' it was off sourced for some reason) in a year and released in a broken state

Anyone have some kino edits?
