It's good, what's in the game is actually really good, too bad there isn't much of it. It's short and the enemies/bosses are always the same.

Then I met the bug-eyed black lady and the lame ship captain and I decided to tone the difficulty down... I kind of just want to get the game over with now.

Not necessarily. Is your game installed on an SSD? My game doubled its framerate when I switched to SSD. The data handling of the game is terrible and it keeps fetching stuff from the drive constantly.
