Fuck being sneaky, give him cool gadgets, maybe a sapper that slows down enemies when placed on a wall or a smokescreen.

Make him slightly faster, lower his fade time, give him a "sprint" ability (by that I mean he can switch between his disguise and spy speed) and allow him to shoot blanks to appear more like other classes.

Shooting blanks has always been a bad idea because it would just increase the amount of spy checking.

if you get in close enough range there's nothing you can do other than kill him before he can splash damage you to death

No one would bother unless he was a serious threat by a good player

It's been a while since I played but:

He could probably benefit from some core changes, but it's been too long for me to go that far.

Anything that makes it easier for him to take out snipers is great for me. Sniper ruins the game and spy was supposed to keep him in check. Then Valve decided to give sniper a razorback, but won't give Heavy something like a helmet.

Also revert the ambassador nerfs. Maybe make it only do full damage against stationary targets like gay snipers.

Also, give him a sapper that attaches to players instead of buildings. Hooks onto their back. Make it affect them in subtle ways. Make their weapons fire slower or with a deviation or something. Medigun heals slower, sniper rifle charges slower, scout loses his double jump. Only let it attach to one or two players at a time so it can't be spammed. Teammates can punch it off.

Because Valve, like everyone else, has moved on to a much better game: Dota 2!

Also make it so he can mark targets so teammates would be able to see their outline behind walls for a few seconds. That would make the spy actually good at SPYING and not just a backstab guy.

user did you play with Deadringer on release? The thing was completely retarded. A single spy would drop 10-20 bodies in a single fight.

Yeah, I've said for a while he should have something like that. Either:
>Tranq gun. 1 shot, marks for death and shows target through walls to teammates for 10 seconds or something
>A laser-pointer sapper replacement. Targetting an enemy shows the them through walls (and marks for death). Targetting a sentry deactivates it and shows it through walls.

The problem with ambassador was that it made sniper mains who played spy an even stronger and antifun sniper. The ambassador spy countered every class if the person playing him was a good shot, Star_ made quite a few videos of him abusing it and its literally a rapid fire sniper with invis if used by a decent player. Still, the changes made it go from huge skill ceiling to shit, so instead either make it so that you can only do a headshot every maybe 5 seconds? Have a charge metre that slowly fills up, this way its not crazy in every circumstance and helps it be strong vs snipers.

Stupid, why would a spy bother sapping someone when he could just backstab them? If a spy runs up to a player and saps them, hes dead, even if he has DR, you would have to make it ranged, but then it runs the risk of being the obnoxious shit thing.

It already has a cool down. The issue is that valve doesn't want to tinker with the scaling distances. I feel like being able to get 102 at mid range should be standard and give spy a good shot at finishing targets or escaping shit situations. The issue was always that he could hit 102 across the map without the need to scope and the perfect way to get to these positions.
