I utterly fucking despise Oblivion...

I utterly fucking despise Oblivion. I think nearly every part about it is so poorly made that it's a fucking wonder this garbage ever got anything above a 3/10. That being said, I know there is a lot of love for the game. I have scoured threads for a while now and the only thing I see consistently praised is the Dark Brotherhood questline, the generic fantasy setting, and the music. Everything else is either shit on or met with polarizing reception. Can people that enjoy this game please tell me what they see in it? And please, we're adults here. No "I played it as a kid and..." replies.

Oh and no "it's better than Skyrim/Morrowind in some way" posts either. Make the game stand on its own merits.

I am playing it now and having fun.

You either like the game or you don't. No amount of telling you why I like it is going to convince you otherwise.

Can you please post something actually insightful

>ugh I hate Oblivion
>Skyrim is so casual
>Can't wait for the new Elder Scrolls!

im too tired to make any sort of remark

>You either like the game or you don't. No amount of telling you why I like it is going to convince you otherwise
That's how someone stuck in their nostalgic viewpoint that they refuse to review would argue.

Why the fuck would you post this

Because I think it's ironically funny.

I hated how oversaturated everything was and of course the nightmare inducing character models. Overall I liked it though. Definitely my favorite main questline and by far my favorite Thieves Guild story in the franchise.

FUCK YOU

>I see consistently praised is the Dark Brotherhood questline, the generic fantasy setting, and the music
you haven't seen me shitting on the dark brotherhood and the setting then. the music is 10/10 though

Shit on them then. You could make a better argument than anyone else in this thread has so far.

Their argument is that you can't enjoy it, though. They're not questioning that point.

A lot of aspects of Oblivion make it inherently polarising:
>Wacky questlines and NPCs which are appreciated by some and immersion-breaking for others
>A compromise between Morrowind's complexity and Skyrim's simplicity
>A generic setting which is comfy to some (because it is a pastoral, nice-looking setting) and boring to others

Not to mention, there's a 'more than the sum of its parts' quality to games like this that makes it especially appealing to some people. It's easy to understand why Oblivion is polarising and it's practically a moot point. If you like quality worldbuilding and lore, you won't like it. If you don't like the technical jank, you won't like it.
You can practically follow a flow chart to figure out whether someone likes it.

It has soul.

t. attacks enemies with depleted stamina

>A compromise between Morrowind's complexity and Skyrim's simplicity
This is a meme. Oblivion isn't a compromise, it's a worse version of both.

Oblivion was my first ES game and I still enjoy it despite having to deal with its bugs, level scaling, and jank etc. I played Skyrim day 1 and felt like it was an improvement despite all the things that were cut. Then I played Morrowind and began to see how far elder scrolls has diverged from its roots. I can still play each game and have some fun but it's sad watching more and more game series go the way of mass appeal instead of just refining the content.

S O U L

Game's not only boring, but also so fucking ugly. Bethesda is always 10 years late when it comes to graphics.

It's fun. The quests are leagues better than both Morrowind and Skyrim (Except for the main quest, where i'd argue that Morrowind is better). The soundtrack is also the best in the entire series. With that said, the level scaling is bad, the art direction is kind of soul less and the environmental design is very samey.

Like you said in your comment, i love it because it's my first elder scrolls game so i'm biased.

>The quests are leagues better than both Morrowind and Skyrim
People always say this but the quests in Oblivion are super linear. Morrowind had a lot of choice/roleplay with factions and side quests while Oblivion was just a bunch of badly written linear shit

I see what you mean but that doesn't matter since Oblivions quests are actually fun.

getting worked up by video games you don't like is not healthy, user

Speak for yourself. Roleplaying in an RPG is what I consider fun.

The implementation of the level scaling system, for instance is retarded. But Skyrim's leveling system is clearly too simplified- having omitted features such as classes. Personally, I think Morrowind's leveling system is objectively the best, but even that game has some crippling flaws such as useless stealth (and stealth is thankfully not useless in Oblivion).

Stealth is actually godlike in Morrowind, but the Sneak skill itself is fucking awful. You can do practically anything you want with high enough Sneak but it levels so fucking slow it's unreal and pickpocketing is complete shit, though that's true of all TES games.

If you don't like it you don't like it simple as that. No one needs to defend the game to you and no response will suffice. You also don't need to tell us you hate it who fucking cares

Pickpocketing is actually bugged in Morrowind to always treat your sneak skill as 5 (or some tiny amount, anyway). It's why it never fucking works.

Op is a retard like always

I want people to defend the game because I have little clue what people see in the game. It's one of the most nostalgically defended games I've seen on Zig Forums and I just wanted to see some actual positive aspects of the game rather than the same shallow, nostalgic compliments it usually receives.

Fuck you!

Le epic mage invisibility is the way to play

Can tell you didn’t play it in 2006

>And please, we're adults here. No "I played it as a kid and..." replies.
Sorry but that’s legitimately the answer, it was good and impressive when we were younger but it doesn’t hold up at all now and most of us realise that. Except the music which is among the best RPG soundtracks ever composed in my opinion.

>Morrowind had a lot of choice/roleplay with factions and side quests
I mean, not really? It’s better than the other TES games sure but almost every other WRPG does choice/roleplay better. Most of TES roleplay is just making a specific build.

it's all kids who played it on their 360 OP, oblivion is shit. i was 14 when it came out and knew it was shit, one of the "why the fuck does this get 10s everywhere" moments

I feel like this but with BotW. I hope one day people realise there’s really not much to that game.
