The problem is that most authors are too full of themselves to embrace what is written in the opera or even the elder Edda, and bring it to live. With its spark, cold and contrast.
The KEY problem is that you get a lot of names and references, but its never anything more. its just names. Its most often incorrectly labelled, or used for the wrong thing.
Occasionally you get to see works go deeper, and embrace the idea of Yggdrasil or even living on the corpse of a giant.
And then you have works like GOW4 and a lot of indie art titles where they retell parts of the story, but fail to understand what its about. But at the least its word for word here and there.
