>Enter ancient civilization ruins
>Discover giant death bots

>enter ancient civilization
>find out that someone from your era already have been in there
>find out that most of your technology is reverse-enginereed from that fallen civlization
>realize that your civilization is doomed to repeat their same mistakes if not for you

I don't mind the trope itself.

no that shit kyno

just because all the poop has dried out and disintegrated into dust (which you are breathing in), it doesn't mean they had better toilets.

>enter ancient civilization ruins
>everyone is dead
Literally every time with this dumb trope.

(((sea people)))

Fucking Dwemer

underrail?

>Old is always better
Why does fantasy always do this?

>the prototype is stronger than the production models

A game I am making, actually. =

Whilst it is cliche it isn't outside the realm of possibility. Prototypes often have more time and resources put into them to prove a concept and work out where corners can be cut for production speed and to reduce cost etc.

isnt that the point, the concept piece with trillions of dollar put into it, and then the mass production pieces that were scaled down?

>"medieval" world
>ruins of old super advanced civilization
>said advanced civilization's technology was taken from another ruin from untold millennia ago
>and it keeps going back, "turtle all the way down" style

Steam pressure isn't a hard concept, the trouble starts when you try to draw power out of it. Good luck trying that when you can barely make steel.

>enter ancient civilization ruins
>it has "lost technology" that far surpasses the rest off the game's civilizations

>realize someone has tampered with the archaeological site and call the authorities

But thats the best part, hell even better if it goes into ancient ayylamos or even better if it goes into humans were the ayys all along.

In real life a prototype typically isn't as good as the production model because it is still undergoing testing and has room for improvement.

For narratives it's convenient to make prototypes far more powerful than production models so that the hero and villain can have unique weapons to fight each other with.

>humans are the precursors

there's ancient technology on earth that could only recently be replicated
and the current civilization is headed that way too
in 100 years there will be no white people left and all the current technology will be ancient tech that no one knows how to produce

no because typically the prototype is the one where they first try the concept and realize how it doesnt quite work right or could be made more efficiently, they also dont fully integrate all the systems on a prototype. Hence the production model usually has all the kinks smoothed out and is easier to produce/maintain/use

>enter undiscovered lost ancient civilization ruins
>there are 40 guys fully armed with AKs waiting there to ambush you

>It's actually modern day japan

Is the ancient advanced ruins meme invented by HP Lovecraft or did someone else do it first?

Don't forget
>all the traps are still active
>all the doors are still locked

>enter ancient civilization ruins
>open tomb
>release ancient plague they locked away

System Shock 2 does this. Only generals or commanders used the TS-04 Laser Rapier, but it became really popular after the Hacker used it while saving earth in SS1. So the Mark IV Laser Rapier was mass produced and they're dramatically weaker than the TS-04.

Yeah, Solon went to egypt and talked to the priests who told him about Atlantis and their tech.
That was like 2500 years ago.

Atlantis, dude.

Just because you see Lovecraft spammed by retards and ironic shitposters all the time, doesn't mean he's responsible for pioneering every genre or concept there is.

>Enter ancient civilization
>It actually houses the last survivors of humanity and technology advanced enough to sustain itself running long enough to travel space and find a suitable planet for them

"LIVE"

>The last survivor you meet is a loli
and your future wife

I actually liked how in FTL you're part of the Empire fighting to defeat the Resistance.

It works sometimes for things like the Dwemer in Morrowind. But, ultimately, you need a good excuse for why the ancient civilization is gone.

Prototypes are typically cobbled together with cheap materials literally just as proof of concept.

I completely forgot about Atlantis.

Xenogears does that to some extent, but they go overboard with it

Etrian oddysey

This happens all the time in the auto industry. Engineers and designers create a prototype and sometimes even a rosd car able to move under its own power, then the suits and the bean counters step in and gut it to save $0.05 per unit.

One of the only good parts of skyward was the ancient lost civilization part with the time stones.

it was invented by real life
