Can someone genuinely explain to me why people are mad about smash steve

Seriously not a single one?

As someone that hasn't really played minecraft in 5+ years, I generally dislike hearing about it at all in a way which I'll openly admit is biased and uncharitable. I also just don't find it a good fit for smash no matter what they do with him to get him in. Not that is really matters since all I do is nostalgiafag for melee/brawl and have barely touched either 4 or ultimate despite having them both.

I wouldn't mind Dante or Doomguy, but I'm honestly a lot more happy with Steve. He has more potential to be a fun and unique gimmick character.

Fortnite doesn't really have any iconic visual motifs though. There isn't even a "fortnite guy" since people build custom characters, and half of them play as things from other franchises like Marvel characters.
There are variations on the Minecraft guy, but it's always the Minecraft guy. It's like Lego. Instantly recognizable silhouette.
Plus, Minecraft just plain has soul. You may not like it, but it does.

I like Piranha Plant a lot after playing it but that was a freebie and not part of the passes. Joker is the only one I genuinely dislike, he's arguably the best character in the game, is obnoxious to play against and has virtually no ties to Smash or Nintendo, stupid pick and an annoying kit. The rest I'm indifferent on, Its just disappointing to be indifferent every time there's a new reveal.

And considering the two passes together cost almost as much as the game itself, I really don't want to pay that much for a bunch of characters I don't really care about. I bought all the character DLC for Smash 4 and I feel kind of burned given the game only lasted 1-2 more years before Ultimate launched after the final DLC was released.

Isaac or really any Golden Sun character, or maybe one of a large handful of Pokemon but I'm sure everyone feels like we have enough Pokemon. But IIRC Isaac was revealed to be an AT and also possibly a Mii costume before launch, I know we have one now, so I never expected him to be playable and was never terribly excited for new character reveals because I already knew it wasn't going to be the character I really wanted.

As for Steve, I feel like he'll either be pretty bad or extremely broken depending how how his whole block gimmick actually plays. It'll be funny to see him dominate, cause tons of salt and possibly be banned or to see everyone be incredibly disappointed with how bad he is.

Its weird, but laggy play has really boosted my ability to space well, combo, and react because I need to be so ready for shit compared to offline. Its worth it user, if you dont let yourself feel frustration the passive gains are worth it

I think people are more mad about the implications Steve bring about the rest of the characters than anything else.

This Fighters Pass was corporate first and foremost, Sakurai even said as much. The likelihood of characters such as Geno is extremely low because if the character isnt actively marketing some currently relevant IP Nintendo wouldn't be interested.

Not one of them has gotten in and considering the terrible choices of this FP2 I guess they won't be in at all either, I can fucking bet they will put the fucking literal who puppet instead of anyone I like in the game.
