I'm trying to make the jump from the Pokémon games to the Digimon games and I'm not sure where to start. Any suggestions?
Pokémon to Digimon
Try Yo-Kai Watch instead
Didn't really vibe with me.
Thank you for the input though.
Only digimon game I’ve played and enjoyed was cyber sleuths. I had one on the ps1 back in the day but I barely remember it.
I've only ever played Digimon 2 on my friends GameCube. From what I hear it isn't a good first impression. I still enjoyed it.
The PS1 games are really good and each plays rather differently than the other.
If you want something more recent, Cyber Sleuth and Hacker's Memory are nearly unanimously considered great games.
How are CS and HM different if they're both recent? Legitimate question. Second versions have broken me.
I hope the mods delete and go after you
Cyber Sleuth Complete is readily available on every platform (including Switch and Steam) and the most accessible game. It's also two full RPGs on one game for a budget price, so it's a good value.
Just remember to play Hacker's Memory SECOND. The menu still uses the Japanese layout so the sequel is displayed on the left.
Hackers Memory is a Cyber Sleuth sequel on the same engine. They're sold as a two pack now, and the Digimon added to Hacker's Memory were ported back into Vanilla CS.
Hacker's Memory takes place at the same time as CS with a different crew. The best comparison I can make is that it's the Majora's Mask to CS's Ocarina
I had no idea that they were a bundle until I actually looked. Convenient. How about the GBA/DS games. Anything worth emulating?
who's this semen demon?
Different user here, but imo nope. I hated world DS and battle spirit 1 and 2 were the most straightforward and unoriginal fighting games i have played. From what ive heard the other ds games are just more of world DS.
t. a former huge digimon fan (former, because i kinda forgot about the franchise).
I had fun with World Dusk but I kinda find it hard to recommend.
Machinedramon.
Why'd you forget about it?
You know a franchise is shit when its mascot is this ugly
oops
Modern Digimon games are split between JRPGs and Action battles in an open world.
Depends what you prefer. In my opinion the RPGs are more akin to Pokemon but its very much a poor mans Persoan, being Cyber Sleuth and Hackers Memory. You'll enjoy the levelling up and digivolving elements for sure in these games, but the story is imo pretty crap. Also suffers from repeating environments, but they nailed the Digimon themselves.
The Open World stuff are the World games. These are real time action games with a v-pet element. Always a hard sell and required dedication but much more impressive environments and story I felt.
...
would recomand digimon world dusk and dawn. they are the most pokemon like game the franchise has to offer so they are good starting point. they have a lot of soul, a big roster of mons and can be emulate on a potato.
>even digimon splits their games into two colours
Ahahahah
Digimon games aren't too great, just watch the anime.
World DS and Dawn & Dusk are popular with Digimon fans, but they're kind of dated. World Championship is fun but it's more of a farm sim.
Battle Spirit is basically Smash Brothers for GBA. It's really fun but there's not much to it, and playing it on an emulator loses the appeal of having a portable Smash.
OP, play Re:Digitize besides CS. It's a Digimon World kind of game. Absolutely worth it.
World 3 is a good comparison to Pokemon, even has teams of 3 like in the OP image.
Considering main series pokemon are jrpgs Cyber Sleuth Complete Edition is a good starting point and even has difficulty modes too
>actually recommending Poop Cleaner Simulator: The Game
The digimon games are mostly shit, so just skip to Cyber Sleuth. The anime on the other hand is really good, so start there.
This, but watch the 20 minute film first. It takes place before the anime and the final arc references it.
If you like virtual pets there's a great v-pet app called PENDULUM COLOR
Digimon world 1 on the ps1 its a great mix of rpg and V-pet but you'll most likely need a guide
Cyber slut its ok but there's a lot of dialogue and the story isn't really good, its cool to evolve your mons though.
Digimon world 3 and Dawn/Dusk are pretty bland rpgs but they are alright.
I'd recommend giving the Our War Game ova or digimon tamers a watch before trying anything though, you probably won't like the games if you don't like the monster designs and the big ass lore
recommend getting all the IRL vpets, as they are dope
Play the "pet" games
Digimon World 1
Digimon Re Digitize
Digimon Next Order (The worst of the 3)
Or play Digimon Cyber Sleuth
Any other games is not really that great because the control quality on other eras was really awful. Now almost all the games are make by the same director.
PD: You can play Digimon Card Battle, is a fun game too
PD: Digimon World 2 is a grind-fest
World 3 (The 2003 is the complete game) is just a normal RPG with Digimon Skin
Digimon World 4 is one of the worst games ever
Digimon Rumble Arena is fun, but play the Japanese ver
Digimon Rumble Arena 2 is really bad
Digimon Data Squad is easy as hell
Digimon PSP is a good game
The Xbox 360 fighting game is bad
Digimon DS is fun and cute
Digimon Dawn & Dusk, are toooo easy and tooo grindy for get evos, 2 things that don't mix together
Digimon Championship
Where is the cute Yugioh line up?
>Agumon is the mascot
>doesn't know that Tyrannomon is really the mascot
Digimon DS is 100 times better, with less grind and easy for new people
Only 2 times on the DS era and never again
for the love of mons do not play cyber sleuth
Yeah, don't play a fun RPG witn a lot of mons, and great characters that is loved by all the digimon fandom outside of some contrarian peoples who want Rumble Arena 2 Remaster
>fun
lol
Cropped for relevancy.
World 3 is soulful but flawed. I wouldn't recommend it to someone who isn't already a Digimon fan, since it has so much retro RPG frustration in it
Don't tell them that. Except for the V20th at American retail, the Japanese V-Pets cost like $100 each.
>$100
Damn. There are real pets that go for less than that.
Didn't enjoy the PSP games or the Digimon World DS titles?
Don't buy anything, but watch Our Wargame (as some have already recommended, the english movie is a stitched-together nightmare so find a sub version)
Also, emulate Digimon World DS. It's a pretty standard RPG and basically like pokemon but with Digimon itself but with really nice moving sprites and a somewhat charming story.
I've only played battle spirit for gba and other anons already mentioned it. It's basically like muscle tag team match for the NES but with orbs.
Fun but nothing too special.
Digimon World 3 is the only good Digimon game, and it's an easy one to jump into from Pokemon. Start there.
I like it but can't recommend it, grindy as all hell
So how different are the version exclusive digimon?
Play cyber sluts
looks miles better than most of Gen6~Gen8 pokemon desu
Fine games if you like Digimon and monster collection but if you like RPG's don't bother they a litreally braind dead grinds.
Start with Cyber Sleuth complete edition for switch as they were meant to be exactly what you are asking for, CS is a straight forward rock-paper-scissors turn based rpg and Hacker's Memory also has some tactical rpg battles to spice things up, both have taking care of a virtual pet having consequences on their stats and evolutions chart and bishonen writing. After that if you liked them try the unofficial full translation of Digimon World re-digitize for PSP. It's a more concise and user friendly spiritual successor/remake of the original on PS1 which features and open world adventure, the Tamagotchi experience + monster raising, real time battles and story that could easily be it's own anime season.
Try out the new card game when it comes to the West next January.
Dont, Pokemon is, was, and will always be the better franchise.
"Was" is the only accurate one.
Used to be? Sure.
Nowadays? Nah.
It still is though.
>Has all iconic mons
>who are pikachu, charizard and mewtwo
>unique animations
Pokemon did it better.
>three mons follow you
And how does this improve the game?
>Less than $60
That's because it's shovelware.
>Available on pc
>not wanting to play Pokemon to kill time on a plane or something
>two games in one
Expansion pass makes it 3 in one
>new story
Catching stuff, beating the champion and stopping villains is part of the game, not a story.
Digimon is just a ripoff of Pokemon. Saying you're a fan Digimon is a sure fire way of telling people you're a contrarian hipster virgin.
Digimon was always it's own thing dumbass.
The first V-pet existed a year before Red and Green was localized(when the franchise became a cultural phenomenon).
>i-it's totally a Tamagotchi spinoff
Yeah, cause that makes you look cool. You didn't rip off Pokemon, you ripped off that toy that teenage girls used to carry around. Wow.
>he believes pikachu, charizard and mewtwo are the only iconic pokemon
>Catching stuff, beating the champion and stopping villains is part of the game, not a story.
does this mean that pokemon doesn't have a story?
Literally everyone had a tamagotchi when I was a kid regardless of gender
The original 151 Pokemon are the only ones that are iconic, and they're all in SwSh. No one cares about Blaziken or Greninja or whatever shillmons they tried to push in the later gens.
>no one cares about the most popular pokemon according to the latest poll
Furries notwithstanding because they're not people obviously.
i'm playing cyber sleuth now – it's just a fucking visual novel – absolutely terrible as a game. don't get me wrong, i'm enjoying it because i like evolving and devolving up and down the digivolution trees so i can read all the fucked up descriptions of the monsters – so in this respect it is more fun than say just reading the wikipedia pages – but by god they are not good games. intro sequence for CS is 10/10, actual gameplay? fucking dogshit. digimon itself? absolutely amazing.
op
try emulating the ps1 and the nds games and just get yourself a digimon vpet - they are around 20-30bucks, you can probably get one next day delivery
>i'm playing cyber sleuth now – it's just a fucking visual novel
It get's much better after the beginning but be warned the story jumps rails in the last 3rd of the game and it's very obvious they ran out of time near the end. Even Xenogears did better job hiding it's rushed ending if you could believe that.
believe me, i'm near the end – it is hilarious how nuts and dreadful the whole thing is – again, i've loved it for what it is, but i cannot with any integrity say it is good
Digimon emphasizes one partner, why do the games allow parties?
because that's not fun
Retard.
If you were to tell anyone you know that you like Digimon, they'd look at you like you just told them you're into pro wrestling.
What in the fuck are you even going on about?
You know that blank stare where they're all like "you know it's fake, right", and then you tell them yeah you know and then they're all like oookay, but in their mind they're thinking "is this kid retarded?". Digimon is thought of in the same manner as pro wrestling to the normie crowd. Or Power Rangers. Silly kid shit that adults have no business caring about. Pokemon was at least enough of a cultural phenomenon to avoid this stigma.
That's what a hamster needs for the first year. Take the hamster pill user, no game can compare.
I’ve legitimately never seen any kind of reaction like that.
>mascot's silhouette is too plain
>have to use his generic big brother
Dragon Warrior Monsters for the GameBoy Color
>CS
>Has a story you haven't seen before
every time
>because that's not fun
>spending time with your bro from start to end isn’t fun
Zoomer
