>le tech demo game
Cover me, Gordon.
tech demos > games, just give me mirrors and soft-body physics even if it plays like shit
It was a fine game, but it was the prototype for every lackluster cinematic FPS that followed for almost a decade after. Valve’s level design is fantastic as usual, but you can tell they’re holding back what the game is truly capable of in service of a streamlined, tightly paced experience. This flaw is shown even more so in the subsequent two Portal games (especially the second one). Any of Valve’s source-era games (except for maybe Left 4 Dead 1/2) could have made a ripple on the industry comparable to the original Half Life, but they either held back or were held back. Half Life 2 was the closest they got to that. If Alyx is anything to go by, they’re content with pushing the industry forward in baby steps as opposed to their former method of dragging it kicking and screaming.
This game was really something when it came out. Any other games that invoked the feel oldfags?
>when it came out
it still is, modern games are nothing like it
Probably Unreal because this was a ridiculous leap forward in graphics at the time.
better than movie the game
>WHEN YOU SEE ELI VANCE, TELL HIM I SAID NI-
Fucking thank you. I've been saying that HL2 mostly inspired shitty "cinematic" FPSs stuffed with set pieces and not meaningful gameplay for years, and people treat at me like I pissed on their dog. It revolutionized presentation, not gameplay, and lo and behold, it led to years of shitty games with great presentation. It doesn't make it a bad game, but it's not the alpha and omega people make it out to be. It's more like Star Wars - a good, fairly straightforward and derivative movie that revolutionized special effects.
>godmode is on
why do you keep posting this webm as if it proves anything
what is it about the graphics that makes them way more beautiful than modern graphics
ELUCKS
VODKER
NOW
It's literally not on. CP's are absolutely dog shit with their accuracy. I even recreated the webm with a faster approach on hard difficulty and took a staggering 3 whole damage.
TLOU2 is unironically better and more innovative
>It's literally not on
You got hit at around 0:11 and didn't take any damage.
Of course THIS webm does prove something, though
>console TPS is better than pc FPS
lol no
I didn't get shot. It's the effect that happens when a bullet hits near the ground. Go play Half-Life 2 and shoot a pistol bullet into the ground and watch how much dirt covers the camera.
> I heard the term tech demo one time and now I say that about every game
>Gordon!
>dirt is red
lmao
yeah I agree
No tech demo would put AI this dumb into their game
That's not red what the fuck
Half Life 2 is on console too, user. Regardless, this has nothing to do with TLOU2 being better. They're both narrative-focused shooter games so the comparison is warranted.
You are colorblind
>devs start making games for consoles
>weapons now limited to two for the casual audience
There's the problem
Why the fuck would I cheat when the enemy does 3 damage? Explain
There's nothing wrong with the AI tho, it's the maps being literally just a single corridor.
How am i supposed to know that? I already proved you wrong so it doesn't matter
>There's nothing wrong with the AI tho
Good AI would retreat once it realizes it's taking too much damage
Go shoot a pistol into the grass in Half-Life 2 and take a screenshot of it. If the color is different you have then proven me wrong
They can't retreat because the maps have absolutely no point for them to hide. Like I said, they're just a single corridor.
>Gordon I should go ahead of you even though you have the bullet absorbing HEV suit
Alyx is retarded
Okay I agree, the companion AI is fucking dogshit. I'm guessing they tried to balance the fact the health regen.
