Why did we forget about this game? It wasn't bad at all

It was unironically too long

Nobody forgot about it. I still see threads almost daily.

>too long
>story too basic
>crouching makes you stealthy meme
>cliffhanger ending
There were tonnes of threads and memes about the working Joe's at the time user. I really enjoyed it, but no replay ability really. It needed to be more like bioshock imo, better story, less samey environments. The power plant was the only memorable level to me.

>it wasn't bad at all
That's not the issue. It was a good game. No one cares about horror games anymore, they're niche. Too bad, really

It was a very niche game in a niche genre, even with the licence. Plus all the bad feeling from colonial marines.

Other than amnesia, and maybe outlast, I can't think of any other pure horror games that have made it big.

>crouching makes you stealthy
Seriously when will games stop doing this? You wouldn't crouch if you want to walk stealthily in real life. The only game that does this right is Thief as far as I know.

Started with amnesia iirc. Its just such a contrivance. If it were real life, crouching would be noisier over any distance, and you'd be walking stealthily anyway.

Well... FNAF.

The AI wasn't good as everyone said. I figured it out playing on Hard. It always seems to teleport to you even when it doesn't know where you are.

>>crouching makes you stealthy
im pretty sure you are just as quite if you walk though, you crouch so you're not seen.
Also it's not long at all if you're actually enjoying it

>crouching makes you stealthy meme
breh, like half of animals crouch and don’t move to avoid detection, even out in the open, and it unironically works, hence why they still exist

Have you tried walking crouched for hours? Go on. It's physically exhausting and painful. You can't compare us to animals because we don't naturally walk on 4 legs.

Crouching should work the same in horror games as sprinting in fps games.

Ie, its limited and needs to recharge, you get out of breath. Maybe you can crouch for a short distance then you need to either stop or walk for a bit.

It was mediocre as fuck
>b-b-but muh atmuhsphere!
>muh DETAIL
The one fucking thing you should get right in a goddamn Alien game is the Xenomorph and the Xeno is easily the worst part of the game. The AI is atrocious, the behavior is completely out of character even if was an Aliens game. Beyond that it's gameplay is just a AAA take on the meme horror gameplay that was trending at the time.

>t's gameplay is just a AAA take on the meme horror gameplay that was trending at the time.
The gameplay actually has variety though, it's not like amnesia where you're just hiding the entire game

Would it be fun to watch someone else play it? I am a wuss around horror games.

Game is great, but fuck is the AI annoying, I wasn't scared after a while and just wanted to continue the game but kept getting cockblocked by the Alien.

>throw flashbang or some other shit to make noise across the map and casually walk to objective
>he's fucking there despite the fact the flashbang just went off 5 seconds ago, he just fucking ignores it despite the fact i've only done it once to him
>can saddle up behind him playing follow the leader but he'll sometimes just spin in spot
other than that it was okay, the nest was good at first but then i hated it because of my impatience, so i guess for me it just drags on too long

I would say yes. I watched a good chunk then bought the game.

The medical centre is the trial by fire.

>I hated the game because it was challenging
The only equipment I ever really bothered using after a while was the noise maker.

the vanilla AI is pretty shit desu, I couldn't get into it because i knew how it worked. I only enjoyed it after installing unpredictable alien which made it so the alien actually has to hunt for you.
there's also a new mod called improved AI which seems to be a better version of it

every single time i mention the reasons i dislike anything, this dumb ass site immediately has shit posters saying 'git gud'

like holy fuck, can you not understand having a leashed enemy is annoying as fuck? I wasn't being beaten by challenge, I was being beaten by my own inability to wait for the dumb fucking alien to do it's shit so I could play

>only equipment i used was agjioaioehntyaioyhnshnyr
no shit you fucking retard, maybe you'll notice i said flashbang or some other shit, since i too barely used anything in the game

you know since the alien didn't give a fuck about any of it and would just follow you anyways

please die, your opinions are the worst I've seen today

>crouching doesn’t make you stealthy
>yes it does
>but you’ll get tired of you crouch for hours!
ok?

You would also get tired from carrying several hundred pounds of gear, or dual wielding, or running from town to town.

he’s right though, it’s an unrealistic and harmful representation of how your body works and sets impossible standards for gamers

No, get good. The Alien is never going to fully leave you alone, and you have to learn how to make use of the moments you have. That's the game.

If your ADHD won't let you manage to sit still for a few seconds from time to time, then I question exactly what game you could enjoy. A basic loading screen would set you off.

There's a reason no one else is talking about the game.

This, except instead of using items I just stopped being stealthy and walked everywhere, just restarting when the retarded AI finally caught up

>Started with amnesia iirc
both Morrowind and Oblivion predate Amnesia and I believe they both have "crouch to sneak"

it wasn't a crouch, it was sneak mode

OUTLAST / OUTLAST 2 BAD
ALIEN ISOLATION GOOD

I crouchwalked for most of the game and the alien rarely showed up

Outlast good
Outlast 2 bad

In Morrowind, when you hit the sneak button, your character literally hunches down to a lower posture, aka a CROUCH. The only difference is that in other games the mechanic is doubled-up with a traversal mechanic.
