These games were underrated, especially Jungle Climber, which was honestly better than Returns. Paon's DK offerings went largely unnoticed, but they were critical in keeping DK on life support until Retro came along, and we might not have K. Rool in Smash if they hadn't kept him afloat too. His last appearance before Smash in Mario Superstar Baseball used their model of him.

Hard to really compare what is essentially a puzzle game to a traditional 2D platformer but I definitely had a lot of fun with it

Retro didn't understand momentum like Rare did then and still doesn't, so it wasn't the platformer it could have been, and had precedent for being. Fortunately, Tropical Freeze was amazing anyway, even if they still couldn't figure that out.

For some reason, I remember really looking forward to this game back in the day and playing the shit out of it. I think maybe Nintendo Power shilled it really hard for some reason?

What was wrong with it?

There was a Duck Dodgers game for the N64 that I absolutely loved back in the day myself, but it helped that I really liked Marvin the Martian. It probably doesn't hold up very well, but I'm still impressed by it, considering they didn't have the later TV series to base it off of or anything. Planet X world was my favorite, and it was full of shout-outs to the cartoons.

Huh, I thought that the game was based on the new(ish) TV series, but apparently that series didn't come out until 2003. I guess it was just riding the weird late-90s WB popularity.

I think the game would have been way better had it been released on the GCN, or at least allowed people to use GCN bongos.

It was made by the same studio behind Pilotwings 64. Kino game.
