This is the first (and probably last) game I legitimately purchased in 2020
Discuss the return of horror kino
Amnesia: Rebirth
what about baldurs gate 3 the most kino game released in the past 10 years
desert and caves are two of the worst possible settings for horror. it should have stayed gothic.
How is this Kino if you havent player it yet?
And you was quick to forget Pigs and whatever their last game was
>whatever their last game was
also pigs wasnt developed by frictional, they were too busy making their last masterpiece at the time
A lot of mediocre horror games on Steam have this rating, like Layers of Horror
so what
it was utter shit
This and cyberpunk are the only games to buy this year
youve never even played it
also layers of fear is only 88% positive far from overwhelming, good game but nowhere near as good
>He doesn't know the latter portions of the game are taking place in Alexander's home dimension.
I don't like Amnesia but I'm willing to give it a shot because SOMA is one of my favorite horror games.
This user is right though. The setting is really uninteresting compared to an underwater research facility or a castle.
Not him but is that true? I haven't watched any trailers because I wanna go in blind
>implying a gothic castle isnt literally the most exploited setting in horror
cmon now
>the setting is really uninteresting compared to an underwater research facility or a castle.
i'm sure the game has some tricks up its sleeves
What horror games take place in a desert?
Sure but I'd take it over some caves and a desert village.
re5
A Machine for Pigs was the best one unironically.
What horror games take place in a desert?
amfp has a better story than dark descent
but the gameplay is so poor
>>implying a gothic castle isnt literally the most exploited setting in horror
it is in literature perhaps, but in video games its criminally underused.
It's really not much different to SOMA and that game gets a pass for its gameplay, mostly. I'd agree Dark Descent has the best gameplay of the lot but it's not not an amazing game to play anyway.
The storytelling was far better in The dark descend tho. It doesn't matter how interesting your synopsis is on paper if you can't tell it properly.
crack when?
Waiting for more classes to be added.
actually i vehemently disagree, just because amfp has a better story than dark descent doesnt mean its something amazing. soma literally has one of the best narratives in any video game ive played which more than anything tells you about the quality of video game writing but still, its also the best video game narrative when it comes to taking advantage of the fact that video games are interactive. dark descent has the most compelling game mechanics for a "walking sim"/hide n seek horror game also, the insanity mechanic forces you to not be a pussy and if you play that game on the recently-released hard mode its something else. so i have huge hopes for this new games if they can combine the highs of soma and dark descent
I don't think there was really anything wrong with the storytelling of A Machine for Pigs. It was held back by the engine more than anything.
Horror games aren't amazing to play (except the action ones but they aren't scary).
>yfw they bring back the water monster
If anything Dark Descent relies more on the player simply reading dialogue than Pigs does
i never got this meme
the water monster was just an entity in the water with clear rules, its not scary in the least
the water monster encounter is 90% sound design, if you haven't upped the volume to max you're not going to get as spooked as you should be by the splashing behind you
I really don't think SOMA was that great when it comes to interactivity. It was literally less good than BioShock: Infinite in terms of telling its story through gameplay (not that I think this automatically makes a game story good). The story was compelling but everything about WAU was stupid and shlocky, and it felt like it was at odds with the better bits of the story. It was nice to get a story that was actually about something for a change, but A Machine for Pigs was too, and it didn't require retards who go crazy and are somehow convinced that if they kill themselves they'll be transferred to a new body.
It’s a simplification of the fear you experience while wading through water with something at your heels
you think im listening to skrillex in the background while playing a horror game?
it just doesnt compare to the grunt
Does it has actual gameplay or its another walking simulator?
>but everything about WAU was stupid and shlocky, and it felt like it was at odds with the better bits of the story
not disagreeing with you but could you elaborate
>I really don't think SOMA was that great when it comes to interactivity
i disagree when it comes to the narrative: the robot at the beginning who thought he was a human, the small robot roaming around who was kind of crazy and spinning up a copy of a consciousness to get the answer you needed were just some of the points where the game used the fact that its a game to its advantage to such a degree its rarely seen. when simon gets into his pressure suit is a moment that could never be replicated in film or book either. it is extremely well done and again while its not exactly shakespear, its about as good as video games have to offer when it comes to taking advantage of the medium. also the WAU was well done it was an actual AI and not an antagonistic unrealistic cinematic experience like some many in other games or movies
Notes, flashbacks, in relation to environmental storytelling (+ Aggripa, and Alexander sometimes). From what I remember, amfp mostly had pretentious audio records and stupid kids hallucinations.
Depends, do you think the original was a walking simulator?
Not any I can think of.
But I still don't think it's a good setting.
Never played, just watched a couple of youtube videos back when it was a hit and all I've saw was people wandering around collecting stuff and hiding from monters so I never bothered actually trying it. So I guess its more of the same according to this question.
Keep watching pewdiepie play games, you'll get to shitposting much quicker that way
Horror games are fucking boring. I like Soma's story but it had no gameplay whatsoever.
