I got too cocky and made the race difficult. Then my ego kicked in and refused to allow me to change the difficulty so I spent 2 hours doing it. I did discover that you can give yourself a huge advantage by slamming into one of the cars on the first corner and causing a pile up.

If you even flip your car in classic then you're as good as dead since you'll never be able to catch up with all the other racers.
I can confirm this atleast, i was playing on the highest settings and my framerate wasn't the most stable with my 1060 6gb. Turn it down to the lowest and it became so much smoother and easier to control it.

Not relevant for the race, but if you flip it in the previous mission your still fine. That's where it happened due some physics fuckery.
Either way, race was still easy for me anyways so I genuinely don't get why people have trouble with it. It's not like the driving model is complex even on sim.

In a game like Mafia I am ok with driving even if the dialogue has stopped, it's a rather linear game with an open map, so it's alright.
On RDR2 I don't mind it much either, unless I'm replaying the game or it's the multiplayer missions, those should let you skip right to the part when you reach the location. So I do appreciate the feature anyway
