I just got around to reading Ben Reilly's time as Spidey and honestly, I love it.
Well, not as the Amazing Spider-man but The Lost Years and basically everything before he dyed his hair blonde. I think that disconnect is what ruined him for some people.

"Oh he's Peter ... But doesn't really look like him because he's blonde" just doesn't sound right. From what I've seen he didn't dye his hair until he became Spider-Man (again). Is that right, Zig Forumsco/?

THIS one was hot garbage but the costume looks great. As time goes on I always find myself preferring the smaller eyes though.

I really enjoyed his characterization, too. In the Lost Years he's Peter without tethers - basically what they did with Kaine later on and forgot they'd done with Ben. Makes sense that they'd go through the similar developments, though. Trying to distance themselves from being Peter and never quite succeeding. So satisfying to read.

Meanwhile as Spidey he has a real respect for Peer, frequently talking about how 'Peter would never give up' or 'never stop fighting' . He and Kaine idolize Peter.

What I didn't like was how the Reilly run insinuated Peter hates fighting because he's 'so gentle' while Ben loves it. It only makes sense because Peter was full of anger and that anger scared him because of what happened with Ben, it traumatized him. Ben and Kaine are just removed enough from being Peter that they don't have that problem.

I think Classic Peter is too general to really say. JMS Peter tops, TLY Ben and Scarlet Spider Kaine close second. Modern Pete sucks.

It was a novel idea that was handled poorly and ran too long and now has an unfortunately permanent place in Spider-Man mythos that keeps getting brought up. Rife with godawful characterization and contrivances that makes me mentally froth at mouth. Wish it honestly wish it never happened and that Otto rocking a Peter-clone body wasn't a thing.

JMS run had a lot of sins that can't be forgiven but his Peter was perfect.
He felt like an actualt adult rathen than a manchild and having him work as a teacher just feels right.

I really liked Kaine's run as the Scarlet Spider. I liked his run in with Otto Spider Man and how sad he was that he thought Peter hated his guts. I liked the whole adopted daughter angle and it ended in Mexico.
Then he was shoved on some d-tier super hero team

I loved Peter as a teacher. It’s a shame they retconned it.

It was cool for a little bit but it had so many issues.
Not to mention they brought it back for like 2 seconds and then magical retconned otto back to fat self.
Why not just keep him as Superior Octopus or some shit.

When I was a kid I wanted to grow up to be a cool adult like Spider-Man.
I wonder how kids think now that adult Peter is a wacky ironic manchild and most cartoons choose to portray his teenager self without the urgency to grow up and raise money for himself and his sick aunt.
