People said the crunch in Cyberpunk 2077 wasn't a big deal, but it actually was a big deal because it meant they were having trouble finishing the game and caused it to be delayed. This is the first time in 30 years that I've ever seen a game where they went so far as to put out commercials with the game's release date, and kept reassuring people up to the very last minute that there would be more delays and that was the final date, only to delay it again. I think it's fair to say that's cause for concern.

Yeah this is great if you like being done with the ice cream in one bite because the containers are so tiny.

yup that's another con but they're too good

The fact they went gold is a good sign that the core of the game is in fact ready, and likely why they were really confident they could release at the date they'd been advertising. That said, it's (unfortunately) common practice to still have a decent chunk of work to do on a game after that point. I actually think it's believable that they really did just fuck up estimating how long it was going to take to get the day one patch ready. It's also possible that one of the next-gen consoles fucked 'em over with some change in expectations/hardware/software.

CONSOOOM

It's also possible that the game is in fact finished and it was just delayed because some idiot exec decided releasing it closer to Christmas would be better for business.

I hate whites but love me that vanilla

It's the opposite if anything. It means they were confident enough in the game to actually release it at that point, but the higher ups pushed it back.

Huh. Maybe.

I find it moronic to judge a game by its development process. Just play it and form an opinion on what you play or wait to see what people who play it think.

Well yeah, It's ice cream fucking dumbass.

It's now mass market. Which means it will just be more bland Rockstar, Activision, Ubisoft vomit for the masses. If you expect anything unique or interesting, look elsewhere, as the simple equation of how much money this thing costs to make means it can only play it safe, thus making everything bland and boring.

I can still call you a fag for it.

>Which means it will just be more bland Rockstar, Activision, Ubisoft vomit for the masses.
It doesn't mean that, and for the record, Ubisoft still makes good games, and art that is made for the masses isn't bad... otherwise it wouldn't be made for the masses. You are part of the masses, don't pretend otherwise. Your inability to enjoy something made for "mass market" is a personal problem.

i wonder how much effort they put into the buildings themselves though

I have a bad gut feeling about this game

Nothing interesting has ever been made while trying to appeal to as many people as possible.

Incorrect, I have enjoyed hundreds of paintings, songs, sculptures, movies, and videogames which were made to be popular. If something is made to be popular, it's made to be enjoyable to people... are you saying you aren't a person?

Just about all art is "made to be enjoyable to people", don't be disingenuous.

>don't be disingenuous
I'm not, you are. Mass appeal just means being appealing to most people.

I bought $4k in stock a few days ago, I'll cash in when it releases. Will it be good? Probably.

cdred is playing mind games with the entire industry, there's not actually any cyberpunk 2077 they're just mindfucking other publishers and having them delay games to not launch in the same quarter as cyberpunk2077 but it ain't even real ha ha ha slurp.

Completely agree, this is a HUGE red flag and whatever it is it's gotta be a fucking massive issue which makes me think 3 weeks won't cut it, which will probably mean a February release or some shit. That's honestly what I expect at this point even though it'll lose them a shitload of money- delaying for 6 months is fine but delaying for another 3 weeks just before the date is pretty fucking bad. From what I heard it was to do with playstation discs or something being fucked or some other console issue which is trash if true because it means that even though PC is ready it'll take another 3+ weeks for PC users to be able to play it. That alone is enough to piss people off regardless of the quality of the game

That's not even the same argument. The real argument here is that things that cost tons of money can't fail.

Your freedom is making you fatter.

I'm not the one pretending I don't understand what the other person is talking about here. You can't tell me you don't see a difference between a work of passion and a product created through checking boxes through careful market research and avoiding anything that might be considered controversial. That sort of milquetoast arse gravy can be consumed by many people but it will not move a single person.

>That's not even the same argument.
My point from the beginning is that art made for mass appeal is good, precisely because it is made to be appealing to most people, and I questioned whether you are even a person for disagreeing on this.

>The real argument here is that things that cost tons of money can't fail.
And the reason for thinking this is...? Plenty of games which cost tons of money have financially and/or critically failed in the past.

>You can't tell me you don't see a difference between a work of passion and a product created through checking boxes through careful market research and avoiding anything that might be considered controversial.
I can tell the difference, but being made for mass appeal does not mean it's not being made from passion.

>this
They're really pushing with this delay, and if they do it a fourth time I think it would be game over. I'm still interested in what the game is going to be like at release, but i'm not excited for it like I was two weeks ago.

I guess, if your passion is making bank. Going for the widest possible appeal is always compromising to an artist's vision, unless they have none. Really, if you want to make something both good and popular, you just need to start by making something good.

James Cameron strikes me as a pretty passionate guy. So does Hideo Kojima. Eminem seems pretty passionate about smashing words together. all of them target mass audiences and have unique visions.
