Quest when
Should I just play this one. I was playing Sengoku NEET but lost motivation after finding out that one is a knockoff of Rance.
si
Yeah, Sengoku Rance is worth playing
Should I just finish the rest of Sengoku NEET first then or would it ruin the experience since apparently that one even rips the sex scenes off
There's a thread up rn.
anyone else looking forward to the spiritual sucessor anime adaptation?

There´s a TON of porn in steam right now - i was just playing the Succubus series on steam (normally i have zero viewers when i play, running that shit it was up to 6 people watching me playing porn) yesterday and that crap didn´t even had a WARNING MESSAGE in the start like 'all character are over 18' or 'adult content' crap in the beginning.
So why the Rance serie4s aren´t available on steam yet?
I have the feeling that greenlighting a porn game on Steam is a matter off luck: if you get the Mormon or Christian employee, they´ll shut you up, but on early mondays you get a nigga and a jew that want shekels and will greenlit even Rapelay.
Prove me wrong.
Where do I start with this rance stuff?
Rance is controversial, people usually don't care about obscure eroge getting into steam because they'll likely never even hear of it. Rance getting into steam would mean big fucking news and I bet valve doesn't want to associate with the rape man.
>I have the feeling that greenlighting a porn game on Steam is a matter off luck
I used to work for MangaGamer and was on almost all of the Alicesoft projects, and this is basically it. Funbag Fantasy still gets in fairly easily, but everything else can be a crapshoot. If your game has school, school costumes or characters without massive boobs it can be very tricky to get approval. There was a short period when Steam was approving basically everything(which is how Evenicle got in) but at the time we didn't want to release Rance yet because... well, it's fucking Rance.
Then suddenly the pornapocalypse came with them almost banning bunch of adult games, and I feel the mark was missed then. If you recall, we did try to submit Rance 5D and VI as package deal to Steam, but that was rejected, and according to Valve's rules you can't resubmit rejected package again.
Theoretically they could be submitted again seperate and with some edits made, but as far as I know people at MG's Alicesoft team aren't really motivated to do that right now.
its not rape if they fall in love with him
Play Sengoku to see if you like it, as it has the best gameplay in series.
Then either play VI or start from the beginning, I'd personally recommend playing in the release order, as long as you can stomach PC-88 and PC-98 games. First two games had their remakes translated a few days ago.
It really depends on which reviewer will check your game. Steam has a history of randomly declining VNs with no ero content.
Rance series is weird because the gameplay changes drastically between later games and remakes. The thing that's constant in the series is JRPG elements, setting, characters and the style of humour.
Rance 1 is very clunky oldschool adventure game with JRPG combat and leveling.
Rance 2 is less clunky adventure game (has kind of Prince Tomato appeal) with JRPG elements.
Rance 3 is first properly "serious" game in the series, abandoning the adventure game elements.
Rance 4 is pretty much direct continuation of 3, both in story and gameplay.
Kichikuou Rance is what-if scenario strategy game. It's excellent if you can stomach some mid-90s clunkiness.
Rance 5 doesn't exist.
Rance 5D is entirely RNG based game that Alicesoft had to get out to keep series moving.
Rance 6 is dungeon crawler RPG, and is legit fantastc. It really feels like grand adventure, with proper ups and downs in the story. Good starting point, but much of old cast appears.
Rance 7 (Sengoku) is light grand strategy game, and absolutely excellent. As its set on its own continent with mostly fresh cast, it's pretty good starting point.
Rance 8 (Quest) is a mission based JRPG. It's a good game, but very much unlike other JRPGs, with each character having limited amount of moves, and game expecting you to frequently switch out party members.
Rance 9 is Disgaea-styled strategy game. As far as gameplay goes, it's one of the less remarkable ones.
Rance 10 is... I don't even know.
In addition there's also Remakes, 01 and 02.
01 is pretty much entirely new game, with card based dungeons and gameplay. 02 is just second game with fresh coat of paint, it's a very faithful remake.
I could go on for hours talking about this series, and what exactly makes it appealing. It's fun stuff.
That is true, I think that games like Taimanin Asagi or Kyonyuu fantasy got a pass because even though their H animations are popular their vn aren't (at least outside Japan) while also being lucky with their reviewer of course. Rance is an exception though, everyone who knows about him has probably at least heared about Sengoku and most likely also played at least a bit of it. If one of his games ever came out on steam I don't think he would come out so silently and most likely he'd gather some controversy.
Yeah
Rance is just a better game, the actual gameplay part is good enough
