Yeah those make sense in theory, but from my experience only Lex x Tailtiu was actually fun to play.

This. Also fe4 is the only game in the series where you can save at the beginning of every turn. I find the "THE MAPS ARE TOO BIG" excuse to be the dumbest shit ever. Just fucking claim 1 castle and take a break. Its usually the length of a typical chapter in the other fe games

This an awful mechanic though since it's now easier then ever to abuse rng and it's not even cheating.

I'm doing a blind playthrough (apart from getting Lex's Brave Axe).

I agree that it makes abusing the rng stupidly easy, but what would the alternative be? There's already enough people complaining that the maps are too big.

Yes, and the prologue was a huge pain in the tits with just constant reloading turns because you stand little chance unless things go exactly right and the ai is retarded and attacks 2 different people instead of the same one. Like ogmas map was some gaylord shit. I'm hoping it gets less retarded after the prologue desu. Probably my own fault for making my unit a peg knight, but still. I'm not a huge fe fan or anything, I've only played por, rd and shadow dragon but I get the urge every once in a while to play one.

I hope so, I remember shadow dragon being just a slog that wasn't super interesting or fun just slow and not that hard. Except the last map was garbage and I just gave up and done the warp cheese rather than clear the whole map like I had intended to do, I was trying to avoid doing warp cheese at all for the whole game.
