It's still my favorite game.
The idea is that people who don't like it dislike it because it simplified and streamlined things. The other two Bioshock games were first-person shooter/role-playing game hybrids. You could fiddle around with stuff, make "builds" and shit, spend a bunch of time dicking around with enemies; playing stealthily, stuff like that.
The thing is, all of that stuff was very shallow. If you are not an autist, the game design and gameplay of the first two Bioshock games is just... boring. People who like them love telling themselves that those games are just like System Shock 2, but in reality they pale in complexity to that game.
Also the games play out in a semi-open world, and a lot of autists believe that open worlds are just better by default.
Lastly, the first two Bioshocks tried to be a horror game, and some pussies were actually scared by it.
Then there are also some idiots who believe the other Bioshock's themes are somehow better explored and have more relevance to the world we live in that Infinite.

Devs used brand recognition to cash in hype, and after the game was released the fandom of the series suffered from severe symptoms of the Phantom Menance syndrome to the point it took a long time for them to admit it's completely fucking shiet, and that doesn't even get into the unironic shilling gaming journos were doing for this game look up Adam Sessler's video review for Infinite if you do not believe it.
Bioshock fixed all of that. Gameplay is still as fast and visceral and fun as any contemporary shooter, and it still has some unique ides other games have yet to catch up to. The devs recognized that you can't make a horror game where you shoot lightning at homeless people, and especially not if you are shooting lightning at police, so the tone changed to a balls to the wall action shooter.
Some major changes were streamlined mechanics. Hacking was removed, for example. The argument autists make is that this made the gameplay dumber, a sane person however recognizes that hacking made the difficulty of the other two games vanish into thin air. Automated turrets instantly becoming instant, permanent environmental advantages at absolutely no cost to the player, etcetera. Infinite's idea of using Possession initially costing you half your salts is much more elegant. Also it gives the game a decent amount of challenge, which the other two games never had.
Also the game was made to be linear. Yes, this made for much better level design, storytelling and gameplay (because enemy encounters could be made much more exciting); but again, autists will be autists and bemoan the lack of a boring open world.
The role-playing game bits have been thrown out as well, to make the game more focused on action. Yes, you can't play stealthily in the main game, but you aren't supposed to.

The nuanced storytelling I was hoping for got replaced with time travel shenanigans where nothing really matters except the last 2 minutes where some people kill you.
Looking at it objectively, the game is one of the greatest masterpieces of its decade. The graphics are so wonderfully stylish that they age like fine wine; the characters are some of the greatest in the medium; and the game is definitive proof that video games can tell just as fantastic, politically relevant narratives as any other medium. Did you know that back in the day some people called the things the game presents cartoonish and unrealistic? And then of course Trump happened and the U.S. did some shit that is even worse than what you see in this game.
Couple that with absolutely excellent gameplay and DLC that makes slogging through the first game retroactively worth it, and you can't deny that the game is fantastic.
Of course, some people here will tell you that it's bad, and that other people also think it's bad, but that is complete bullshit. Keep in mind that this place attracts a massive number of racists; and obviously they are going to hate an anti-racist game like Bioshock Infinite. Seven years goingon eight and counting, still living rent-free in their heads.
Look up virtually any other gaming community and they will tell you it's a masterpiece as well. The game sold 12 to 14 million by now, the fifty odd dipshits here are irrelevant.

Here is an interview that Ken Levine himself did with Rolling Stone.
He said that when he was working on Bioshock Infinite he made that game like any contemporary AAA production. That is: huge amounts of people working on the game, hired and managed by personnel who's job it is to oversee the people working at Irrational.

"For you, it's an experience that you play. For me, it's the five years making it, and all the things that happened while making it, and the health problems I had during it. I saw a picture of me when we first announced it. That was 2010. And then I saw a picture of me after I did an interview on NPR when we shipped it in 2013. And I look 10 years older.
It changed my life in terms of what it did to my health, and what it did to my view of making games, and my relationships with people.
Managing 30 or 40 people where you know everybody's name is a very different process than managing 150 people. You walk by people in the studio and you don't know who they are.
There's a certain kind of person, man or woman, who thrives in that situation, who are a captain of industry. I'm a creative. I'm a writer, basically. More like a showrunner on TV.
I think the natural expectation was that I would go and do the next bigger and better BioShock game. And I felt, "I think I'll fail if I do that. I think I'll lose my mind, and my marriage." And so my solution was to quit."
Ken just isn't the type of person that is comfortable with AAA development, is all.
And 2K for some reason, couldn't put a proper team together to make a new game until just recently.

Infinite dumbed down or removed everything Bioshock 2 improved upon and had a terrible story with tons of plotholes. Okay now we can stop talking about this trash game and talk about the best in the series, Bioshock 2, which Ken never had any involvement in.
Bioshock 2 is unironic kino, It's just missing that originality factor. Shits all over Infinite in terms of story and gameplay though.
The game suffers from the problem that theres no room or reason for you to explore combat wise. Its one od those games where you better like the gun you get at the beginning because youre gonna be using it at the end. This is not a big deal for some the story was fairly enteraining and I liked the twist and reveal at the end, burial at sea was alright.
Bioshock 2 improved absolutely nothing about the original and it is also a steaming fucking garbage fire emblamatic of the worst practices of the AAA video game industry during the 7th generation.

Level design is boring, enemies are tedious and the weapons and powers are utterly mediocre. The story is dull and unsatisfying because dimension jumping and time travel plots are inherently messy and nonsensical. There is no compelling reward for exploration and the game is overall too easy. The backtracking in later levels is easily identifiable padding.
It looks pretty and has good voice acting, though. It also inspired endless rule 34 careers so that's a bonus.
Here’s a new complaint so tell me if I’m being stupid:
With the new editions that came out a couple of years ago, with Infinite there is a room near the beginning of the game where you are dropped a ton of preorder supplies and extra shit. This is because all of those new versions are the “Ultimate Edition” and come with golden weapon skins and a ton of extra shit.
The game fucking forces you to take all that shit, giving you a leg up and throwing that balance of the game off. You literally can’t leave that room until you upgrade with every item they placed.
On top of this, they force your pistol and machine guns to be golden the entire game, which breaks my immersion. No way to turn off that faggy gold pre order bonus shine.

Duel wielding weapons and plasmids, made hacking immensely better than the first, AI actually didn't bug out and felt like a real challenge, had 6 endings compared to the 2 in the first game depending on factors other than just sacrifiicing or saving little sisters, Big Daddies were explored upon more, Splicers had more variants, and weapon upgrades were more unique. Oh yeah and the fucking DLC, especially Minerva's Den, was fucking great. I'd argue Minerva's Den was better than 2's simple and sweet story.
