Did you beat Hell yet? I haven't beaten it.
I can get through the first part pretty consistently, but the second part leading up to the mini-boss is like a 10% chance for me. I've only made it to Ballos 3 times so far.

I beat it, and got both the shit ending and the balrog ending.
Weren't you in the Vib-Ribbon thread minutes ago?
Any tips? I don't wanna waste the life potion due to autism. I'm using the spur.
Is hell not the last part of the game? Why not use the life pot?
>due to autism
It just feels wrong.
I get that, "waste" just sounded like you intended to use it for something else later
Running through hell normally is about as reflexive as the Sans fight now. Doing it without heart containers/Hard mode is forty minutes of me dying to the falling rocks room.
One day when I am not lazy I will get the secret ending...
What's the secret ending?
>He doesn't know
Fuck you, man. You did this exact same thing last thread.
No, Balrog's big head beat me every time, maybe I should try again after what, 5 years?
you not a mimiga
How many of those do you have?
What happened to that dude who was doing a checklist of shit to draw?
I was looking forward to the Sue impregnation pic they were working on.
A bunch but I maybe missed some
I have most of these. Can you catbox them for me?

Had to go with imgur cause man catbox kinda really fucking sucks for uploading, it would get stuck at uploading any of them no matter what size
It's so very tempting to just watch a video of someone fighting Ballos and copy their moves. That's what I did for La-Mulana's final bosses and I regretted that.
Oh, neat! Thanks for this.
She's so cute I love her so much
Do you really love her no matter what?
it's terrible game design. Just make a save state before the final boss fight.
>Terrible game design
Why? It's meant to be a final challenge gauntlet. Cheating completely defeats the purpose of even doing it.
Assuming this is actually legitimate and not just bait... The most important thing for Hell is to be putting attempts into Ballos, which means the more times you can get to him consistently the more times you’re gonna have to beat him. One thing that’s easy to miss is that you can actually farm HP after the falling blocks room by leaving the next room out the top and re-entering to reset it. That’ll let you farm the Angel spawn for HP and weapon levels, obviously you want to level the rockets up to max.
After that it’s just execution, you should be able to reliably get through part 2 of hell without losing any HP, or losing as little as possible.
There’s various ways to beat the Heavy Press, but I found the most reliable was just stand directly under it and shoot super rockets up into it with Curly. You’ll take some damage, but trying to dodge and move around just let things get messier and I’d take more. Do it like this and you’ll probably have about 2/3 of your rockets left and about 5-10 missing HP with only Ballos to go, not too bad. Hopefully you’ll get some HP from the statues too.
Ballos P1: Aim to take 0 damage here. Stay a distance from him and shoot a fully charged Spur as soon as he becomes active. When he charges at you hover a little distance above and away over his head to dodge it, he’ll fly up only as high as you go, so hit him with another Spur as he goes overhead and repeat.
Ballos P2: This one is all about timing. Just remember that he pauses on his second bounce the first time, then his third bounce every time after that. That means you get some distance, jump over one lot of bones from one bounce, then as the next bounce is coming down you want to already be covering into position to Spur his eyes. If you’ve got good aim you can simply hit him from wherever, if you don’t trust yourself as much, then you can land on his cheek, unload, and jump off. Then after that dodge twice, then hover.
dying to the final boss and then having to re-do the entire segment is bad game design.
Tedium is not difficulty. Your punishment for dying to the boss should be restarting the boss fight, not the segment you already beat.
The part before the boss is included in the segment. That's why it's a gauntlet. If you take too much damage, you have a much smaller chance of beating the boss.
The challenge is beating it all, not just the boss. It's not bad game design because you don't like it.
That's how it was like with games released in 2010 and prior. Deal with it zoomer faggot.
Games with heavy punishment for failure are much more satisfying to beat.
It's tedium. I beat it already the "legit" way and it's still shitty game design.
Do you also think it's good game design in Zelda II to die to the dungeon boss and then respawning back at the beginning and having to backtrack all the way back?
No. It was pointless and tedious waste of time. It wasn't "hardcore"
If you try react to his pause, you’ll miss it. You have to be counting and get in position as he’s coming down.
Ballos P4: This is where you want to be using the last of your missiles to destroy his eyes ASAP. Beyond that it’s just timing and some careful geometric prediction to make sure he doesn’t roll over you. I always try end this phrase ASAP because you can lose all your HP in a second and it sucks.
Ballos P4: Time to finish it off. There’s a million complicated strategies I see people recommend for this, and they probably work, but they’ve all got high execution requirements. My recommendation is you realise that when spamming Curly will outdamage you, so face her towards Ballos and use her as your damage dealer here (except when underneath him obviously)
I quite literally just stand on one of the platforms and do that, I don’t move or change except to dodge spikes. Quote kills Angels with Spur taps and Curly’s Nemesis destroys Ballos. If you’re able to get here with some Super Missile’s left, then throw those out as soon as you get rid of his defensive eyes, otherwise it’s a DPS race, and one you should win.
It’s a hard fight, but it’s consistent, so learn it by doing attempts and you’ll be in position to beat it soon enough.
Honestly agree, the worst part of Hell war learning Ballos because each attempt came with the frustration of having to get back up to him every single time, it really sucked. Especially because if you don’t know how to deal with him, some of his phases would kill you super fast.
I hate Boss gauntlets too, for pretty similar reasons.
Based verbose user
>It's tedium
It is a bit tedious, which creates tension. If you weren't sent back, the boss wouldn't feel as intimidating.
>Do you also think it's good game design in Zelda II to die to the dungeon boss and then respawning back at the beginning and having to backtrack all the way back?
No, because there is not much of a challenge in that. The dungeons in Zelda II are something you explore once and collect the keys and items. That's the challenge. Once you have to restart you just gun it for the boss. That's not how it works in Cave Story, since there's an actual level before the boss you have to beat. They're different games.
Usually with modern games that have less of a punishment for failing, the levels and challenges are much harder and feel much less rewarding. There's better balance in games that expect you to clear a number of challenges in a row.
Did you replace the machine gun with the super spur?
Machine gun is actually the best gun in the game
For Phase 4, I highly suggest sitting on the ground while the spikes raise. They'll do 2 damage to you, but more importantly, you'll get invulnerability frames. After that, fly onto Ballos' left eyelid. And then just fucking UNLOAD YOUR SUPER MISSILES into him. He should melt and you'll be able to skip most of the headache. It's not very hard either, it only took me one try.
As a Caveat, I’ve never beaten him without using the Life Pot, that’s pure autism and I’d recommend you at least use it when learning him, even if not for your real runs, otherwise you’re just wasting your own time for no reason. More time on Ballos means you learn him faster and get used to what you need to do.
is this thing zoomer pepe
