I think his videos were pretty interesting at first but now I think they're insufferably boring

>speedrunning shit
>at the same time takes for fucking ever to talk

Its informantive but lacks any energy to get you interested unless its a game you really care about. Also the intro/outro song he plays every video makes my blood boil for whatever reason.

nah, it's gotten kind of boring and the episodes are way too long now.

>watching matthias get robbed of 32/32 WR's repeatedly

Attached: 1492536804160.jpg (504x627, 31.75K)

snore
Also speedrunners need ritalin, not encouragement

That pissed me off. What kind of assholes would try to rob someone of that? They weren't trying to get the WR, they just wanted to stop him. Fucking autists, man.

I was rooting for them to stop him. He was a villain.

"no shortcuts" category is bullshit to begin with, who cares

He exaggerates a little too hard for a monotonic tone, stop making up fake hype, nobody likes that
Also make something from the last decade you fucking nostalgiafag, you have like ten videos on mario kart alone, and stop being a whiny bitch when people recommend shit in the comment section

>optimistic and compassionate man on a quest for greatness gets assaulted by hordes of people whose only purpose is to destroy
he's the underdog

>greatness
>speedrunning

Only videos he's made that I give a shit about are Castlevania and Punchout but those videos are good I guess so he's alright.

I'm 50/50 on it, on one hand it's nice to see the progression of a game but on the other hand I have no idea how the fuck people can meme themselves into playing the same game over and over and over and over again for like 10 years just to hold a record literally no one cares about. You see the people's facecams when they get their WR and the best they'll do is "Yes! I did it!" then sit back in their chair alone in their room because literally nothing changed about their life or anyone else's. At least in multiplayer games you can make fat stacks and become an e-celeb or something.
What's worse is when you've spent a zillion hours trying to save 0.4 seconds off your time, then some 14 year old with no job takes your title and literally nobody gives a shit about what you did anymore, the fact that world records are so easily replicable makes an already useless hobby feel even more worthless than it actually is.

I've long accepted I'll never understand speedrunning but seeing these guys burn thousands of hours playing the same levels over and over makes me really sad.

>just let this guy get all the WRs and ruin the accomplishment of getting them in the first place
Competition is an integral part of speedrunning, if you can’t comprehend that then you’re the autist

Literally just got done watching this. I’m starting to think gangstalking is real.

The outro song is kino and I wish I knew the name of it

i like his stuff

>stop being a whiny bitch when people recommend shit in the comment section

What did he do?

Bro you're a fucking nobody, who would bother stalking you?

t. stalker

I was just binging this.
Have no idea what he's talking about but it's perfect background noise.

bro. I’m THE nobody.

>just let this guy get all the WRs and ruin the accomplishment of getting them in the first place
There's no medal or reward for getting all the WR, you fucking retard.

The best speedrunners are guys who don’t care about the records themselves and instead just want to take the time it takes to beat the game as low down as possible. ZFG is a great example

he didn't say reward, he said accomplishment

He gets all autistic when his comment section would get bombarded with suggestions, and he takes it as if people are telling him what to do. So he picks things no one asks for and acts like he "really stuck it to them". Not that I care what he picks to talk about, he could at least stop being butthurt about it. Only reason I know that is because of other people (speedrunners he talks to that stream, mentally ill discord users with their parasocial relationships) and see it being talked about here and there

Completely misunderstood my point

I enjoy the content but it's starting to get incredibly formulaic.
>Horribly aliased screenshots of forum posts.
>"But then, [runner] did this:"
>The same indie electronic *wave music every time.
>"And it seemed like this would be the end of the story... Until two days later, when [other runner] showed up."
>Deliberately include 2 minutes of unedited footage that makes it seem like it would be the WR only for the runner to fail at the very last second.

You’re right but I still like watching his vids while eating or doing stuff on my laptop

SMB 4-2 is his best video

His videos has been in my recommendations for years, but finally decided to watch them and they are 10/10 comfy as shit. I don't even play the games, but they are just really nice watches.

youtube.com/watch?v=zR6fECxF44I

The problem is that SS made it look adversarial. He framed it at Matthias vs the rest.
In reality, they were all in the same discussions and the coalition was more of a joke about how dominant Matthias was, like "plz matthias don't steal all the records we kneel". But the video made it look like they were all ganging up to frustrate him

This. And I know the exact reason - there's a moment in the history treated as a big upset every few minutes.

Same phrasing, same lead in, like we're supposed to be surprised that things changed over the years while he's hinting all along that this would be the case so even newcomers to speedrunning should not realize what's going to happen.

He's no longer just clearly an efficiently stating the history, he's trying to basically information jump scare you constantly. It's fucking stupid and annoying and boring even the third time it happens.

After the 4th one in the latest video I just closed the video.

Summoning Autism.

Fucking garbage.

Agreed. The mario kart speedrunning where it's, "And then... he had 99/100. And lost it in an hour." happens like thirty times.

Never thought something would make me sit through 30 minutes of talking about speedruns, but then there's this guy and Karl Jobst. I swear I would get suckered into watching fucking paint dry if Karl Jobst made a video on it and called me an "absolute legend". I don't know how he does it.

I didn't mind it in the other videos but he did it way too much in the latest one, it was obnoxious. Hopefully it was just because he was sort of covering a bunch of different speedruns at once and he'll relax with it in the future.

>information jump scare

Attached: very abstract soyjak.png (823x987, 541.75K)

Agreed. It's his watch for rolling rocks.

Yeah, the fact that they never kept new strategies from eachother shows that it was all friendly competition with Matthias bantering with people when he gained/lost a WR. The video makes it seem like he’s some kind of supervillain trying to ruin MK64 speedrunning, though I was cheering for him near the end

there's too much focus on the people getting the records and not enough on how they achieved them. he'll give you the life story of whichever virgin got the record but very little info on what saved them time, their strategies, etc. He's most focused on presenting a cool story over presenting the actual history

i think it's fun trying to speedrun certain tracks in racing games or certain levels in platformers, but i think that's because they actually have a sense of speed tied to them which makes it satisfying to improve at them
i cannot imagine speedrunning something like pokemon or some shit like that

i hate you

Thanks for the song

>BEEPs out swears from other people's stream so he can get ad revenue
Only niggers do that.

>The video makes it seem like he’s some kind of supervillain trying to ruin MK64 speedrunning
I actually weirdly got the opposite impression from the very start. The dude was just good and trying to get records and then they set up a whole team to try and stop him (again, in reality they were all just in the same conversation having fun)
Apparently there was more recent drama when one dude actually wasn't sportsman like and hoarded records (for as long as a year) and suddenly dumped them all at once and picked up multiple WRs. He made a public apology for that.

>this changed EVERYTHING
>gameplay montage of the exact same gameplay we've been watching the entire time

Actual speedrunning documentary-style kino coming through:
youtube.com/watch?v=wjge1bVobN0
youtube.com/watch?v=QKsRNoLyXO8
youtube.com/watch?v=goad2ijHBE8

That's a good way to put it. It's so bland and formulaic it's like I'm listening to a podcast that ran out of steam 2 years ago and is only continued for financial gain

It’s only ever like that for the games he clearly knows a ton about like Punch Out and Mario Kart, the Mario Sunshine WR progression videos by a different guy are better because he was pretty dominant in the game himself and he knew a ton of information about specific tricks people used and the personalities of each runner. SS clearly doesn’t know much about some games before he starts making videos for them which is why quite a lot of his videos are more about who held the record as opposed to how they achieved it. Sometimes he’ll just say “this guy was grinding in the background and got the WR eventually”

youtube.com/watch?v=oudZMniib08
youtu.be/oHg4oTMu5Yc

the last video literally had a motherfucker within the first ten minutes
youtube.com/watch?v=D6cpa-TvKn8&t=340

i don't think the quality of his videos has dropped down, i'd say it's more the game/topic of the video that might make certain episodes less interesting than others. ninja gaiden episode was pretty recent and it's pure kino.

The DK video is kino.

>watches summoning salt
>Doesn't watch superior speed docs
>Or explanation videos by Bismuth, AverageTreyVg, TomatoAnus, Malleo

His latest video was pretty bad but the older ones are absolute gold

Don't forget this
youtube.com/watch?v=lcS_OFIEQQo

He relies a bit too much on the same setups and music to build tension. It kind of kills interest after a while.

Really good to passively listen to, actually watching the videos is kinda boring but it’s good background noise

>Speedrunning
youtube.com/watch?v=W_gdqMTKXrc&t=2s

Who?

>Not speedrunning at night when your parents are sleeping

Attached: 1424775551624.gif (700x704, 295.43K)

i think his formula is fine in the case of videos where it involves new development of the speedrunning routes/strats and watching the games themselves slowly becoming more and more broken, those are the most unpredictable and entertaining
it's why his newest video was one of the dumber and weaker ones i feel, since it was the no-shortcuts category, the entire pace of the video just held on
>this runner held the record of this track.. until matthias DROVE BETTER and took his time back
over, and over, and over again

meanwhile watching stuff like his mkwii ultra shortcuts video, or castlevania is so fascinating because of all the unpredictable shit that happens in those videos
explains it pretty nicely, too

>makes me really sad.
why? because these people can play a game over and over again while making money on the side?

while you play a bunch of other games and not make money at all?

Confirmed for patrician tier taste

I like listening to his videos while going to sleep

pretty sure that's why she interrupted him, because he was speedrunning at night but too loud
if not on that occasion definitely on another one

>NOOOOO, ITS BORING AND I HAVE TO HAVE CONSTANT ADHD SHIT FILLING THE SCREEN.
God, shut up.
They're informative and that's what they aim to be.

That one, the Punch Out videos, and the Castlevania one

>its only 1 o clock and this is the weekend
25 year old man
