Salt and Sanctuary

What's the Zig Forums opinion on this one? Was it any good or just a soulless cash grab?

horrendous art style kept me from even trying this.

Couldn't get over the art style. Only thing that kept me from continuing the game. Exactly what said.

i had fun with it

I remember some bosses being direct 2D ripoffs from Dark Souls. It was meh, I never finished it and dropped after a few hours

Best dark souls after 1

I hear the builds are unbalanced

Yes, 2H greatswords are really OP, especially in NG.

Only real niggas remember this KINO

Peak SOUL and peak 2D Souls. On par with DS1 for sure.

I played it all but i agree with this. The artstyle and designs are atrocious looking. It's like who ever is responsible for this shit doesn't know anything about art at all. Game itself is fine though.

it walk the fine line between mediocre and somewhat enjoyable, can be really clunky but I overall liked the atmosphere and monsters. I enjoyed exploring, finding shortcut but you can really get lost easily. Human characters look really bad though

i remember these fuckers made a game called zp2kx or some shit on the 360 indie arcade

2D dork souls. Mostly easy save for maybe one or two bosses.

9/10 game
0/10 character art
8/10 background art

Honestly the character art is so bad it's baffling, like even just hiring a DIFFERENT guy who has never drawn a single thing in his life would have been an improvement over the guy they have who has never drawn shit in his life.

I enjoyed it because I like metroidvania, balance could be better though.

It was a small project made by a couple. I guess if the guy(coder) chose someone else for the art direction his wife would have divorced him.

That's gotta suck seeing everyone praise the shit out of your game but specifically call out everything your wife contributed as dogshit lmao

That is why you never make business with your lover or friends. Things can get ugly and dramatic.

It looks like shit so I passed.

It's pretty good
Its main weakness is the fact that because of plot reasons, the zones are unrelated to each other and there isn't any real environmental storytelling going on because of that, it's mostly a gallery of horrors.

It was decent. Not perfect and a little rough around the edges. Yeah, it ripped off Dark Souls, but it also did it's own thing too. I'd like to see a sequel actually, but doesn't look like that will happen.

What about Vigil The Longest Night?

they made an isometric open-world zombie survival game called SCZ a long time ago, was a big deal because it was one of the first ones ever.

It's one of the best metroidvanias of all time. A fantastic game all on its own.

Played it a few hours and quit. Unappealing styles and environments and the gameplay didn't click with me. It all seemed so shallow.

one of the few "soulslikes" that understood what makes those games good

The game is pretty good but the art style is fucking horrendous

Which is?
Because it's certainly not the artstyle or animations since those are trash.

I would actually give it another shot if some good artist would fix it with mods.

gameplay is fine
character art is dogshit

Soulless cash grab

horrendous art style for sure BUT i think this is pretty much as good as a 2D souls clone with metroid vania elements could possibly be.
very enjoyable game

You faggots won't trick us into buying your shitty game
