Well that sucks. Is Crossbell at least a decent conclusion to the isometric chibi-era games?

The writing quality for world-building remains consistent but Cold Steel makes a really annoying solution to the issue that I didn't jive with at all.
And to compound that, the main character isn't all too appealing or is surrounded by too many developed characters to properly develop compared to Estelle/Joshua and the SSS. Rean doesn't even have a proper, canonical foil aside from Crow and he's shit at being his foil.

Cold Steel 3 and 4 are among the best in the series.

It literally stops halfway into the story. Coldsteel was supposed to be a "quick detour" but it ended up becoming most of the franchise. Hajimari is where the "ending" for Crossbell is, but Coldsteel derailed it so hard it's barely the same story anymore.

Crossbell is great, wraps up nicely but the story of Crossbell itself and the characters involved are unfortunately connected to the plot of Cold Steel so you won't get a proper bookend to the larger plot threads but will get decent closure in terms of character arcs.
CS3 being pretty decent only makes CS4's utter dip in quality feel a lot worse.
And those two games make the events in 1-2 feel completely pointless

crossbell is okay. It's definitley better writing than Cold steel, but Lloyd is pretty much proto-Rean. It's still closer to sky than cold steel though

Rean just adopted the worst points of Lloyd and made an entire gameplay shift towards it with bonding events spread across way too many characters.

Do you think this series will ever have another female protagonist? Honestly kind of insane that we got a character like Estelle to start the whole series off with.

Zero is great, it's very reminiscent of the Sky games, just with a much worse protag. Ao, on the otherhand, is Cold Steel version 0.9, and you'll see exactly where most of the worst tropes plaguing the series going forth come from.

I will at least say that killing off Arianrhod like that made me hate Rufus more, and maybe that was the point, but I still wasn't really a fan of how it was handled. Although I legitimately didn't see that coming and happened to have Jusis in my party. it was nice that he had shit to say about Rufus being an absolute cock. Still, we almost got a full party consisting of Rean, Crow, and Arianrhod for divine knight battles, and that would have been pretty cool.
