It's 60% off on Steam at the moment
I grew up on Soulsbournes (though we called them 3D Metroidvanias back then)
Love the genre to death
Will I enjoy CV?
Should I get the Deluxe edition?
Code Vein
Code Vein is like the most 7/10 game I have ever played.
The game costs $20 and below for console before sales. Don’t settle for it being $23 on sale for pc
It's a divisive one.
It's got some really good ideas and a few really poorly executed ones. A firm 6/10 that spikes to 8/10 at times and is a 4/10 slog in a few spots.
I was unimpressed by the cosmetics and progression, the maps are huge but copy-pasted to fuck, the characters wildly swing from "compelling" to "retarded" depending on the scene, how much you're going to enjoy the combat is going to depend heavily one what you're fighting and with what.
The class system is neat. It's more of an FFT job system.
It's like 80% off on cdkey websites. Is it good? Yeah, it's fine. DLC is shit and not worth purchase. You'll like it, but may get filtered by Anor Londo 2 if you're a zoomer.
>Will I enjoy CV?
Christ no. If you like Soulsborne games you'll be furious with this one for copying everything Souls games do but significantly worse. It's got alright characters, story and art but the actually mechanics are laughable and broken as shit.
The gameplay quickly devolves into stacking buffs that last a few seconds to do one large attack more often than not because the hitboxes are jank and make dark souls 2 look polished.
You get a partner that revives you immediately if you die as a bandaid for the broken mess of a game it is instead of the devs actually addressing the core issues. You can level up but all it does is increase your attack and HP. Defense stats don't even exist. May as well get the zweihander and enhance it for 100% block.
For the positives, the environments and areas themselves are quite nice, and the original aspects of the game that aren't a blatant rip-off of much better developed games are good ideas, for instance blood codes for easily swappable "builds".
>the maps are huge but copy-pasted to fuck
this is a bit of a dealbreaker for me
how bad are we talking here, Nioh level recycling or just lazy level extending?
Oh also skip out on the DLC. They're three short, shitty areas with HP sponge enemies and bosses and the core content is just you re-fighting the big boss of the DLCs over and over for more achievements to unlock reskins of equipment you'll already have by that point. There's at most 3-4 decent skills to unlock in the blood codes you get in those DLCs but they're not worth the price at all.
Extending, the only levels that get recycled are the Chalice Dungeon-like ten-second long optional areas. Apparently they're were procgen at one point, but they're sure as fuck not anymore.
Play the demo. It fucking sucks. Just buy Nioh 2 instead.
Eh it's ok.
I like the cape physics.
The story is a horrendous trainwreck though.
That cathedral place is actually fucking nuts.
The dark vertical tower thing is great too.
But the other levels were pretty forgettable. The bosses certainly weren't as hard as DS, apart from that Pursuer rip off.
The hitboxes in DS are no better than Code Vein. They both have shit hit boxes.
I started with CV and went into DS.
The blood codes are by far the best aspect of this game.
That and cat tits.
The biggest problem is with the environments. You can really tell that the devs are used to God Eater's limited arenas with how copypasted the assets are. Besides that and the reused enemies, it's pretty good. Try out the demo first so you don't complain about it if you don't like it.
>That cathedral place is actually fucking nuts.
Ah yes, the one area in Code Vein I actually enjoyed that makes everyone shit their ass out in anger.
It's both visually beautiful and an interesting to navigate, I don't see the issue.
The difference is in the animations. Dark Souls animations are very well polished and tested extensively for reaction times and have clear cut wind-ups (for the most part lol).
Code Vein doesn't have that. There's a slew of bosses with virtually no wind-ups or can cancel out of attacks into other ones at will. That's what makes their hitboxes unacceptable.
Anime Dark souls but with none of the SOUL
>still has zero lewds
>everyone I knew who liked this game was gay and attracted to the dudes
Then why did I have problems with DS when I went into it?
I think the remaster may have nerfed something.
I don't know about that. They're all pretty easy to fast dodge, and Shifting Hollow allows even heavy builds to dodge attacks. The only attacks I can remember that were outright difficult to dodge on reaction were the Lord of Thunder's backflip and the Queen's Knight shield spin, and the latter is mostly because it hits twice and has a large hitbox.
It had so many "intentionally emotional" moments that I kinda stopped caring about the plot completely by the 7th level or so. Walk through cutscenes (which are literally statues) are terrible.
None of them were femboys though.
I don't get it.
Fuck if I know dude.
Strange I felt even with fastest dodge the bosses were retarded and janky and their animations didn't wholly match up with the actual hit.
To top it off some had sharp, immediate jab attacks that did twice as much damage as larger wind up attacks which is just fucking confusing.
The walk-through cutscenes weren't bad, in concept, but all of the multiple scene ones were exactly the same fucking thing.
The protag's memories or stuff like that random one-off poison code's memories were great.
>I grew up on Soulsbournes (though we called them 3D Metroidvanias back then)
Shut the fuck up zoomer
This board is so embarassing
>Boss does a massive fucking AoE attack.
>Dodge or run away from it.
>Boss punishes you by practically teleporting atop of you with it's hyper fast zoning attack.
>Does another AoE.
>Buff up, about to hit boss.
>Do 1 damage because your partner hit it once to 59% HP and now it's shifting phases which make it inexplicably take no fucking damage.
>Hyper mode activated.
>AoE
>AoE
>AoE
fuck this game.
I spent more time on the character customization than in the actual game. the combat was an instant turnoff for me.
It is strange. I'm replaying Bloodborne right now, and it feels slower than Code Vein. Maybe it's just because there is a lot more commitment when you attack in BB, while CV allows you to cancel out of most actions.
I thought the memories involving Cruz and a few of the Attendants were pretty good. Lots of suffering all around.
Just block the Gilded Hunter and bring Io, user. Literally easy mode.
I disagree. I loathed pretty much every scene.
>AoE everywhere
Yeah I fucking hated that.
too bad she turns into a normal human in the end
Not if you get the neutral ending.
But why?
The thing turning her into a big tiddy cat girl gets absorbed by best girl before best girl turns into a tree.
Can I build a good Alisa in it?
too bad the neutral ending isn't canon
What's up there?
