Why is engineering so fucking soul crushing?
Elite Dangerous
because the game is shit.
I like flying but I hate relog grinding so I stopped playing
Engineering is ultimately what drove me away from the grinding. I've been grinding I'm video games for 30 years but never have I had to endure a more unsatisfying grind than engineering in fucking ED
Because the entire game is a soul crushing grind. I despise it when disingenuous retards say the grind is optional.
I'm in the same boat OP
I got it for free on Epic and I stopped making money to go unlock the engineers
I finished The Dweller and I'm now trading 1 commodity per station like an idiot to unlock Lei Chung
How do you grind engineering? Whats the gameplay like
And unlocking is only half of it. The materials are cancer even if you use guides for most optimal places, and you burn through them like nothing when leveling the unlocked engineers to unlock positions of other ones.
I'm still pretty pissed about the nerf to mining. They're worried about people getting endgame ships too fast, but the grind was already bad enough considering how expensive they were to outfit, and then to have to grind out engineers on top of that is already as shit enough time.
There is a "grind" to unlock them and then a grind for materials so they can upgrade your stuff.
Some are easier to unlock than others but it's still a grind, for example one asks you to travel 5000 light years away. It took me one evening of mindlessly jumping from system to system on the second monitor. It wasn't really fun just a lot of time.
There are guides for the materials but most of them involve going to the right spot, collecting them then relogging to collect them again until you're full. It's really badly designed.
don't forget that to get the best shield and missiles in the game you need to grind for at least 8 weeks in powerplay
Oh, and that 2 important engineers are located in colonia :)
Fuck me, I keep forgetting about the powerplay shit too, just grind grind fucking grind. What joy.
because the game is fucking trash and designed to waste your time
if it was more like eve and gave you fun things to do with other players instead of soul crushing grinding, it wouldn't be so bad
Can I get a quick rundown on the game? What do you do in it? Is there a lot of customization on the ships you use? Is it fun?
Cool ship
I'm using an ASP Explorer now but I have 90 mil saved up, not sure what to buy next
Python's a ship that'll do you good, great all rounder
you still ended up with hundreds of millions with nothing to buy, it was quite insane how easy you could make money with mining, especially since it's by far the easiest option out there.
I hope the boost to combat will be big, so combat stops being a rich man's playground and actually becomes a viable money making option
I hope you plotted route to one of the nebulas that are in the 5000ly radius, that way you at least get some nice sights out of that shit.
depends on what you like doing the most
The worst thing about the game is how it's basically unplayable if you don't look stuff up on the internet.
Like the very first engineer asks for a "meta alloy" to unlock. There is only one station in the entire galaxy that sells it.
because the game is trash
It's almost like they could mitigate issues like this by having a tool that lets you look up commodities ingame, but they're too retarded to implement anything like that
I did not
Fuck
it's a space sim set in a galaxy the size of our own (literally, it's the biggest game world ever made), you can do what you mostly expect from space gams: explore, pew pew some baddies, become a pirate and gank carebears, mine stuff, discover alien ruins...
Ships have incredible detail, they are all unique and handle differently.
The combat is very fun, and incredibly deep.
I don't know about you, but I just quitted when I got an outfitted conda through opal mining. Combat still isn't fun on it even with friends.
Extremely shallow game made for mindless autists.
I think they wanted you to fight thargoid scouts for that one
It feels kinda nice having a little extra extra, considering some builds for the cutter or corvette could come close to a billion. I sincerely hope they buff combat enough to be worth while, but something tells me it'll barely be anything
this game is equal parts amazing and terrible
it is SO goddamn fun to fly with a HOTAS, a podcast on like you're a real space trucker
and then the actual game part is grind and AIDS, 140 hours in and I still have to unlock some engineers and grind more mats
it's pure suffering
>play a bit on my own
>friend logs in
>he's 300ly away
>takes like 30 mins to even meet
>we look at wing missions to do something together
>deliver 5000 tons of cargo for 3 mil
>slaughter 60 pirates for 2 mil
>no wing missions for our rank at all
>non-wing missions aren't synced so we can't do them together
What the fuck is the point
7 fucking years and we still only have 37 ships...
But instead of giving us more ships (the number 1 aspect of a space sim), they instead decide to make fps combat
are you fucking with me
>tfw huge ship class never ever
game can be quite beautiful at times
How bad the nerf is? How much you making per hour now?
Just buy carrier bro.
they already exist user
don't tell me you're some poorfag schmuck that doesn't have 5 billion+ credits from mining
Played this game for 200 hours and never fucked with engineers, played most of the time before it came out. It sounds soul crushing so I hesitate to get back into it.
Are those useful for exploration? How fast they can move?
