Why should I apologize? I've never been in the "RETROARCH IS SHIT! ZSNES FOR LIFE!" camp.
I've always defended it on here and now it seems like overnight everyone LOVES Retroarch on Zig Forums just because Xbox can run PS2 games.
I don't understand the problem people have with Retoarch. It has always worked fine for me. It's configurable for the most autistic of use cases as well.

somehow the UI confuses people, you have to remember most people that play games for a hobby don't know how to read something that isn't harry potter or star wars comics.

The default xmb ui sucks but you can pick any of the other ones
Most arch cores are garbage compared to standalone emulators, that's why. RetroArch is an easy all in one for lazy people, which is fine, but let's not pretend like it has any real merit beyond sheer convenience.
My only complaint is that the button mapping is strictly based on the Xbox layout that applies to all emulators. It's a pain when you want to map a Genesis controller for Genesis games, but would like to switch back to Xbox for other systems.

Dislike for retroarch's UI is understandable since pretty much every other emu on PC has typical mouse interface up until you launch the game. RA assumes you're holding a controller the moment you launch the program. You "can" navigate it with M&KB but it's so obviously an afterthought.

that's true. I have a constant running setup with wasd + uijk, for ingame and the main ui so I can fire as quick as possible through anything I want to do
If the PS2 emulation is made really good (like being able to change settings on the xbox instead of transferring the .ini file from pc)
