haven't replayed this game even once since it came out sadly
sold my game disc years ago
>be a 3d platformer
>too afraid to make your game all about platforming
these are just adventure games too cowardly to be platformers
You’re thinking of Jak II, Jak and Daxter is pretty much pure platforming start to finish with like crash 2 levels of vehicle sections
This. It's a damn shame because I really enjoyed J&K, and the sequels just became lame GTA clones that were the big meme of the time.
Repetitive and boring.
Jak 2 and 3 are leagues ahead.
1>3>2
X>Daxter>>>>>>Dogshit>>>>>whatever the fuck the lost precursor or whatever it was called was
>Jak and Daxter is pretty much pure platforming start to finish
>ignoring the vehicle sections

RIP in peace Bonesaw577
2 and 3 beat it in every way.
2 > 1 > 3
1 is a classic platformer
2 is a radical shake up with amazing atmosphere, writing, and difficulty
3 tries too hard to please everyone and was clearly rushed, too easy, shit story, and shit ton of recycled content from 2
Absolute truth
Don’t agree but there’s still Jak and Daxter love even if you don’t appreciate true 3D collectathons
2 and 3 are still collectathons that are full of mini games. Things evolve just cause they added guns doesn't mean its different.
I wouldn’t call them clones, II is only a clone in the sense you go to a place, get a mission, then drive to said mission. The actual missions are pretty good and make for a really solid game, but the driving being 40-50% of it bogs it down for me
It's not as replayable as you think
Wait I just realized
>repetitive and boring
Motherfucker Jak II is mostly driving to destinations on the empty open world
You collect metal head skulls and precursor orbs (for secrets) in II. That’s ONE required collectible
As a little kid I liked the part where I could crouch down and crawl like a cat but fuck that game was hard to beat as a stupid 7 year old
I finished it like a month ago (dear god not 100%) and I’m feelin like going back, is that just because I didn’t 100% it because I really wasn’t in the mood to get the billion maguffins when I knew the 100% cutscene was baaaad
You can beat Jak 2 without collecting a single item. Skull Gems are only for upgraded attacks and orbs can be missed in almost every zone you visit.
I only have 1 and 2, haven’t beat 2 yet, is 3 worth jumping into right away?
>is 3 worth jumping into right away?
no you have to experience jak 2 before 3
Sorry bad phrasing I meant should I pick it up and play right after I beat II
X had a pretty fucking good online netcode/modes. I assume that PS4 emulated release of it didn't retain the online servers though.
It didn’t and it’s the stupidest shit, do they even WANT the ports to be relevant?
The 100% cutscene was just a cock tease that didn't even line up with what is actually behind the door in the second game
excellent thread
jak 1 was the peak of 3D exploration platformers
they took everything that was good from Mario 64/Banjo/Crash/Spyro and polished it to a mirror shine
Naughty dog ripped off spryo but did it worse (though it was still impressive at the time being all one large world). Also, crash is a better platformer. Each game gets worse as well. Not even the best ps2 exclusive platformer (sly cooper 1 and 2 are better).
I liked Jak 2 when it came out but I was pretty young. Looking back at it, it's pretty fucking terrible in comparison to the first. Still haven't even finished Jak yet. I borrowed 3 from a friend back then and played it for a bit and it was more or less the same.
Yup, this and Ratchet and Clank pretty much perfected the formula. R&C had better combat, but J&D had really great level design, what with the way the eggs were strewn about each area. It was like Korok seeds if Ubisoft had known when to quit.
This. Jak just controls so smoothly, his movements are so fast without being slippery. It can actually be a little jarring to play other 3d platformers immediately after because they just feel so slow in comparison.
