Been listening to some of his Breencasts on youtube and just remembered how bullshit his stuff is. Like, fighting muh instinct or some crap because combine says good stuff will happen to them. What does the promise of immortality have to do with it? Why is making humans not able to reproduce contribute to humanity's supposed goals? I get his broadcasts are entirely propaganda but they sometimes seem to make no sense.
Can someone explain what Dr Breen's justification for the Combine stopping humans from reproducing?

It's not supposed to make sense. It's all a lie. Pay attention to what the NPC's are saying. None of them believe it either. I guess you could say that if the combine is going to make everyond immortal then reproduction is obsolete and would quickly lead to overpopulation. But it's pretty clear to anyone living in that world that the humans are just being exterminated
The natural question follows: Why does Breen believe it? Or even if he made the whole damn thing up, why does he side with the combine?
He's just in it for himself, being king of the slaves.
Plus he doesn't think humans will survive any longer than by being obedient. Immediate extermination is the alternative.
>fighting muh instinct will make good stuff happen
people already believe in that irl. chirch in the past. people who use the word "coomer". nnn.
and although no one believes in this crap in the hl universe, i wouldn't be surprised at all if everyone blindly did here.
The Combine wiped the floor with all of our combined military forces in 7 hours. Most of us sleep longer.
If Breen didn’t placate the Combine and spread their bullshit we’d be extinct.
breen will suck dick to live another day
He would also rather be in the Citadel than in City 17 itself
I wonder what he does for fun. Who does he talk to? Those one eyed elite guards don't look particularly chatty. I also wonder if he knew about the g-man, and what his personal opinion of Gordon Freeman was.
>he doesn't think humans will survive any longer than by being obedient. Immediate extermination is the alternative
I always thought this was the answer... but I haven't played the game in a very long time and don't remember where I heard this or if it was even from the game
He had doctor whatsherface, didn't he? Probably keeps a few other people around as well.
I think the instinct and immortality things are related because the thing that makes them immortal is terrifying.
I have heard theories that Breen turned into an advisor at the end of Half Life 2, that could have been what he was talking about which I imagine would be scary for everyone because becoming something new even if it's to live forever is something your instinct will tell you not to do. no idea what the suppression field is for though
It's bullshit, but the only choices are enslavement or extinction. Although looking at stuff like synths and stalkers maybe the combine can do worse things than extinction.
This, if the Combine actually wanted humanity extinct they'd just have killed everyone easily, what they actually wanted was to keep the population to a managable level.
he has a giant pc in his office, he probably shitposts somewhere on alien imageboards, while playing those manhack piloting simulators.
>what his personal opinion of Gordon Freeman was.
I feel like he hates Freeman and knows how big of a threat he is because of Black Mesa
What the combine want is never explained. They sure don't need a single dingy planets resources. At most they want the genetic code of everything alive and maybe mix it with who knows what.
none of us have sexy anyway
>What the combine want is never explained.
They want the teleportation technology that Vance and Kleiner have. I forget the exact pseudo science but its something like the Combine can't teleport within a dimension, only from one to another.
>we will never ever get a true conclusion to HL2 story that episode 3 was supposed to be because whatever sequel they produce will be something else entirely
It wasn't immortality for you
It was immortality for him. He was getting promoted and you were becoming a balding soiboy who couldn't reproduce and was living on a stripped-out planet. His gambit was literally trading the world for his own job with the combine.
They didn't come here for that in the beginning. When they found out about it they obviously wanted it, but before it was just opportunism.
I think it was explained that they were made aware of it from the Xen incident. That's how they became aware that such technology existed in the first place.
Everything else was secondary to getting that technology.
HL3 when brehs
>Who does he talk to?
Twitter, surprisingly enough.
>twitter.com
I guess initially our universe was just another one to subjugate
Yeah, imagine if our leaders went on TV to spread patently false irrational propaganda and misinformation.
Did they? You'd think the combine army would have stuck around longer.
he has zoom calls with advisors
Because of personal gain to him alone, not to humanity.
Makes no sense though. They won the 7 hour war by decimating the world's militaries, why would they stop there? If there goal is to exterminate the human race, they could just keep fighting and end the entire world in a day.
It's a species wide hostage situation i reckon. Combines are willing to augment the entire species for it, holding the entire planet hostage with the idea of immortality that could bring down the resistance to its knees as the population is finite. A battle of attrition with the Combine in the absolute upper hand.
Obviously the answer is that they have some use for (some) people, especially scientists.
Getting into the weeds of the invading aliens' motivations is unnecessary and overly exceptional.
Why do the Mass Effect Reapers/Star Trek Borg/X-COM aliens etc. etc. etc. want to expand and assimilate?
It's a question you might as well leave unanswered because knowing the answer always feels too mundane.
>last tweet in June 2014
>oh no
Fuck that always gets me
Humans got portal technology and whatever the fuck the Borealis is before the Combine did, despite being as comparatively technologically savvy as ants are to humans.
They want humans around to reproduce that tech, but don't want any chance of humans somehow turning the tables on them. Hence the oppressive regime that keeps them alive for now.
>Why do the Mass Effect Reapers
Something about technology bad and child space jesus willed it or some shit.
I like the idea of this video. LOVE the music. But this guy just keeps saying the same shit over and over "perfectly represents the scene" .... ok we get it.
That would explain his apathy toward human suffering
