FFVI is a mediocre game, any other FF or the massive amounts of JRPG's out there are better. This is one of the worst experiences I've had playing a game. Combat is a complete joke, even by FF standards. Even bosses go down after just a few attacks. Nothing in this game can even remotely pose a threat to you, yet it insists on assaulting you with random encounters every few steps.
But what irked me most me was how godawful the writing is. FF6 is a game that clearly wants players to be invested in the story, yet it never bothers to give any of the characters a real emotional stake in that story. Terra, ostensibly the protagonist, spends almost the entire game in a fugue state and going 'what's going on? aw, my amnesia, aw, my head'. At one point, Banon, the rebel leader, even asks her if she wants to help the rebellion. You can in fact answer no to this question, and if you do it repeatedly, the game actually accepts this answer. Guess what? The game completely ignores your answer and just continues with Terra helping the rebels. How on earth did they go with this script? FF6 is a story where the protagonist literally does not give a shit, so why should the player?
All of the characters ring completely hollow. Cyan is introduced, and within minutes his kingdom and family is poisoned to death, and, minutes later he's cracking jokes about being an old geezer who's clumsy with Magitek mech, and we are supposed to take him seriously as a character and emphatize with him. Edgar, a literal king, joins the rebels, yet there's not a single line of dialogue in the game where he expresses any doubt or hesitation or other human emotion about abandoning the safety of his station. All of the characters are complete caricatures and it's impossible to take the story seriously as a result.
Why is this considered one of the best RPG's of all time again?
Play BNW. It makes the gameplay excellent and story is just as irrelevant
Jaxon Lee
Okay zoomer.

I been playing games before you were alive kid.
Bentley Mitchell
No. You wouldn't have posted that zoomer horseshit above. It's obvious you didn't grow up with the context necessary to appreciate this game.

Terra really has no driving motivation to anything for herself until after the WoR when she has to protect the orphanage. Edgar has faith in his retainers. His real worry was letting his brother go into the wild after using that coin toss to give him freedom from responsability of the throne. Cyan's regrets haunt him in his sleep if you do the side quest that involves him. There are clear character motivations, for some reason you're looking at the wrong places.
Sure gameplay can be cheesed with magician grinding but pretty much most JRPGs offer a cheese option. Plus you can play a modded version of the game if you really wanted a harder game.

fucking savage, jfc

>m-muh context Nice projection kid. Is there an ounce of testosterone in that little body? Is that why there are tons of 80s and 90s better in everyway then this piece of shit. Get fucked zoom zoom.

>FF6 is a game that clearly wants players to be invested in the story, yet it never bothers to give any of the characters a real emotional stake in that story. The same thing is true for literally every single final fantasy game. Japs are just bad at storytelling.
Ryder Jackson
I liked it and had fun, user, why are you so mad at the game?

If you haven't noticed yet, Final Fantasy is a lighthearted comedy series. None of the games are meant to be taken seriously.

>I have low standards, why doesn't everyone else have low standards like me?!?!?!?!?!

I was gonna say this. Most JRPG's have garbage stories, especially the FF series. Also I remember everything in the world of ruin being difficult without a guide handy. The difficulty should take a dramatic turn then if you're not grindy. I like to be challenged too, but outside of FF4, I haven't found a ton of challenging moments in the series.
I love the characters and their abilities in the battle system. Also hyper random encounters also is an FF trademark in my head. I don't even have the patience for JRPG's anymore, and it sounds like neither do you

>going into final fantasy with expectations I am sorry i am not mentally ill

I don't know about all this but I do know that Dancing Mad is one of the best Final Boss themes.

>muh context >y-you had to be there Lmao fucking nostalgiafags literally can't articulate why a game is good
I've been playing them recently, I've finished 5,6,7,8,9,10, 10-2, 12 and 13
I think 7 is the best written and presented story in games, far more than what I expected from it, it would probably be perfect as a video game if the gameplay were more challenging

>Dude what if we made half the playable cast be inconsequential to the story >Dude what if we made a cast that barely says anything and almost never interacts with each other >Dude what if we made multiple cutscenes where the main character has no idea what's going on and just stands in the background while people who matter speak >Dude what if we made a villain who has zero emotional connection to the heroes and doesn't even meet them until the last ten minutes >Dude what if Star Wars >Dude what if we gave the narrator a comical Apu accent >Dude what if we made a political plot and then ruined it by turning it into standard ancient god shenanigans >Dude what if we made a plot where the heroes have almost no impact on what happens until 95% of the way through the story and spend their time traipsing through non-descript caves and ruins >Dude what if I'm Captain Basch >Dude what if we made the sheathing/unsheathing animation stop you before and after every battle >Dude what if we took everything 100% seriously and had zero levity >Dude what if we wrote all of the dialogue to sound like a Renaissance Fair >Dude what if we we had no overworld and all travel was handled by a menu or floating teleport crystals >Dude what if we made a battle system where you set everything up in advance so that you don't actually play the game >Dude what if we made summons useless except for opening doors >Dude what if instead of fun side quests we had only fetch/kill quests like in some generic MMO >Dude what if instead of having fun side games like the motorcycle chase and Triple Triad we had nothing >Dude what if we had really shitty music

i think sephiroth’s buildup is the best for any villain ever in gaming but i simultaneously think sephiroth is a shitty villain and the entire story is just retarded nonsense

Name one reason you think FVI is good.
