trap ahead!

probably a book that came with original copies. if not then entirely a learning experience

the chain points forward and if you look closely you can see the chest breathe if it's a mimic

are there chains in Das2?

>playing any of the DaS sequels
lol, didn't know i was talking to a retard

literally nobody in souls history has noticed that the first time

You weren't. It's okay for games to have a death trap every once in a while, as long as it's not every 5 seconds like Kaizo Mario bullshit.

What you could notice (assuming we are talking about the first mimic in DaS1) is that the Chest isn't parallel to the wall behind it. It's literally the first and only chest out of the 10 or so you probably encountered that is just diagonally in the middle of the room. Also there is a blood puddle infront of it iirc.
Point is they tried to make it stand out so you don't rush into but rather observe it for a second .

this was an intentional design
they didn't want players to easily kill mimics
tried it myself and got killed that way

A huge amassment of bloodstains near a chest should should warn about some kind of trap.

You weren't. That's what made it so good.

again, nobody does that in souls games

shoot with arrow.

Playing it online

Should have given the mimics more animations instead of this cheap janky insta kill.

Its the locks and hinges at the front. Real chests and fake ones are easy to tell apart once you get fucked by your first mimc.

you can't see the chain well in many bases because of the textures/ground incline, but just hitting it is more than enough.

It breaths if you look at it

2's mimicks have very obvious locks on them

The Mimic Itself looks a little different from other chests and actually breathes if you watch it

By itself its not a lot to go on but then you combine the bloodstain system. Tons of bloodstains will be in proximity. If you watch them you'll see the person died opening the mimic and being swallowed or fighting an unseen enemy

I heard someone else here complain about getting killed by a mimic so when I started playing myself I swung at every chest before opening. All it takes is one fuck-up.

Die and then know what to do next time. Why is this even a discussion? That's the game.

It's funny in 2, where NG+ changes some non-mimicks to mimicks. On NG it looks like people are being killed by a normal chest.

Dark Souls always punishes you for being careless and unobservant. If you hadn't learned to be careful by then you deserve to get killed by the mimic.

i push by those trivial problems, i was never observant on a no death no bonfire run and got all the way to veldstalt before being killed because i mistook his shotgun orb for his buff which wore off

Aside from the chain being different, don't mimics breathe when they're idle?

that and the fact that it's in a weird placement, in a place that's known for traps it should immediately raise some suspect

You are expected to die in Dark Souls. After it kills you, you come back and study it to find differences.

That's bad design then, which is worse.

cool story bro

the chain points towards you, regular chests point inwards
you could also try poisoning them, or throwing a talisman at them, since that also opens them up and lets you loot them for free
but seriously you can look at the chain and just now

>fortress of murder and assrape
>there is a "chest" standing in the middle of the room like somebody just threw it there
Mimic has a little brown thing underneath it as well which turns out to be it's body squished.

know
fuck
