At what age can you start lifting?

Don't want to stunt a kids' growth

when I was 10 there was a kid in my class who used to do 50 pushups and 50 crunches evry morning
I started at 14 personnally

14-16, depends if he already had his major growth spurt. Have the kid do some sort of sports before weightlifting tho, I did football before and during my lifting journey

Gymnastics at age 8 to get some fundamental strength, then combat sports at age 10-12. Then lifting at age of 16-18

It's okay for children to body weight exercises but don't touch weights until your 16 (18 to be safe).

I had a friend growing up who was always muscular than me growing because he lifted weights young and played football. I was jealous of him until we got older. He grew to be 5'8 while I'm 6'2. His dad was taller than my dad.

Every gymnast I’ve known, both male and female, were short as fuck. Especially those who started very young.

>It's okay for children to body weight exercises but don't touch weights until your 16 (18 to be safe).
Why?

There is no evidence whatsoever for that.

Usually manlets have advantage when it comes to gymnastics.

Growth stunting comes from injury, so long as they dont do anything that could seriously injure them , its pretty safe, i'd go with resistance bands personally

I started at 14 and grew until I was 24 years old to be 6'4".

Wait, does lifting really stunt growth? I tought it did the opposite because of the increase in HGH production

not if you get enough protein I suppose.

Shut the fuck up. Growth stunting happens as a result of stiffening the tendons and not eating enough, both are side effects of weighted lifts. Gymnastics is the perfect tool for strength training young kids because it's all body weight muscle training and stretching is a crucial portion of the training. The additional strain on joints and tendons from weighted lifts should not occur until after all major growth spurts or there a real risk of stunting growth.

>pull ups
kid weigh 60 pounds?
>lat pull downs
can do them with increments of 5lbs
which one of them is harder?

It's about the balance between muscle strain and growth. The body's natural weight is the best tool for strength training children.

Let's take a look at some anecdotal evidence I have on this subject.

My uncle has twins - 18 year olds sons. One played basketball since he was 6 and plays at a very high level now. He only started hitting the gym this year. He's 6'4"
The other has been doing judo, taekwondo since he was about 6 and has been working out since he was 15. He's very built for his age. He's 5'9"
My uncle is 6'2" and his wife is 5'6"

Fraternal or identical twins?

user if you injure your growth plates they stop working

Are they identical twins?, if not then it is a worthless comparison, personally i know a pair of identical twins where one did not grow , and thats because he became a drug addict and was probably mal nourished.

yeah gymnasting is digging your own grave when young, all that jumping and shit really fucks up your knees and bye bye growing

Started at 12, when middle school football started, and I hit 6'1". However, we only hit the weight room like twice a week, the rest of the time we ran drills.
I wouldn't put a kid on a hoovy routine until 14 or 15.

Video games and surplus calories are the best way to live until you decide to get fit as an adult

just sports like biking, swimming, hiking, some calistenics, football etc etc until they're 16-18 and then weightlifting.
simple as

Does ballet stunt growth?

>never had a growth spurt
>grew 6cm per year until I was 16-17
>put on some muscle size at the same age without lifting
Now I'm 19 years old 5'10 and 165 pounds(9 months of lifting) while my dad and brother are both 6'2 and much weaker than me
I'd like to be 6', but I wouldn't trade my strength for it desu

Are body weight routines safe for children under 12 years?

And basketball players are all tall.
Do you think playing basketball makes people taller, retards?

Short people have an advantage in gymnastics, so the ones that stick to gymnastics are short.

basketball, volleyball and swimming are good

Have you ever done gymnastics? Harder on my tendons by far than lifting ever was

it stunts emotional growth

Lmao what's hilarious is that this kid is like 20 something now and just fat and out of shape

Your kids will grow to hate lifting when you do it younger than 13 or 14. When they go through puberty theyll wanna start fucking and chasing girls but before that, lifting will just be a nuisance for them

based retard

>dancing with beautiful women to beautiful music is psychologically harmful
Is this what incels tell themselves?

it can break the ending of your joints that are reponsible for bone growth.
i donT know how true this is.

Professional ballerinas are all sexually coerced by their tutors.

>doesn't understand what "risk" means
Enjoy fucking up a child's life, you fucking idiots.

Every basketball player I know, young or old, were tall as FUCK. If you want To become tall, play basketball

It fucks your toes. Just play hockey, the only sport worth playing.

Hockey players are mostly racist assholes

Yeah that’s because short people make the best gymnasts, look at all the lumpur gymnasts, they are all manlets, they have a better centre of gravity than us tallfags

lolwut
Racist against who? It's a bunch of whites and euros talking shit about each other.

That's because gymnastics obviously selects extremely harshly for shortness because of advantageous leverage for the sport (in most events, something like the pommel horse can be a lot different because of how insane an advantage long legs and arms are in it but that's about it, everything else benefits short people), not because it makes you shorter, most people who start out young doing gymnastics don't make it because they get too tall once they turn 13-15 and start sucking compared to elite short people.

That’s based, going to put my kids in hockey now.
